You are correct... but only if it is a truly balanced circuit. Adding a balanced "adapter" cable to an unbalanced set of IEM's does not make for a balanced circuit. It would be no different than simply buying a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter (which is what these cables are - only they can charge you more because of their marketing of the word "balanced".
Absolutely agree. Yesterday arrived PHA 3 - balanced output shines with Z7. Listening till late night - Earagasm :)

@FiiO, I've been doing some testing of the coaxial and digital outputs on FW 1.1.5. With the coaxial output I can now play 24/192 kHz tracks but with bit rates over around 5500 Kbps there is an awful hiss over the music that sounds like white noise. Under around 5500 there is no hiss and the 24/192 music plays fine from coaxial.

With USB audio output it has been greatly improved with regard to noise but I am very surprised to be able to control the volume on the X5iii with USB audio output to and external DAC. Also, when I maximize the volume on the X5iii the output isn't as loud as the coaxial output which tells me there is some attenuation or other process before the USB audio output that should not be happening. USB audio output should be bit perfect and unmolested by the source device, in this case the X5iii.

Thought you should know if you're engineers are not already looking I need to this.

Dear friend,

We have talked about this with out engineers as well. The USB audio function is still being improved so may have some problem now. So we may not be able to ensure the output as well. We will try our best to fix the USB audio function.

Best regards

Hi. i have the pha 3 and i like it. Absolutely preferred it over the mojo when i was looking at them.

However i'm considering the x5iii to replace the pha3. I sometimes find my setup a little too bright or (somewhat) aggressive. Still good, but was looking at the x5iii as i beleive it might suit me.

How have you found the pha3 v the x5iii. Is detail significantly different between the two?

For example, if I go into an album file, click the pencil for batch function, click on 5 songs and then add them to a playlist, I would like them to appear on the playlist in the same order that they appear on the album.

Dear friend,

Seems you would prefer the sorting according to track number. We will report to our manager about that and consider about this.

Best regards

I would certainly hope the ZX2 sounds better - it is twice the price.

Its all down to preference. I had the ZX2 and actually prefer the X5III other than awesome battery life with a ZX2 but that won't drive demanding headphones.

They are absolutely different. I was very patient with FiiO X5 III. For my ears sound it is veiled, lacking of details, depth and articulation, some distortion on mid frequencies. Only after friend of mine tuned software, it sound OK now. I would keep PHA3 - it sounds much more better. Or keep until Fiio will fix sound - hardware allows better sound, which it is spoiled by software. Another problem - can't connect my Fiio to PHA 3 through USB - perhaps not fixed software problem with USB output.
Anyway, still believe that in coming 6 months Fiio will manage to fix all issues with software.

@FiiO When will the replacement Glass screens be available for purchase for the X5iii? I found a small chip on mine (probably from all my cable with XLR connectors).

Dear friend,

You can send PM to me or email to support@fiio.net. We could send some to you for a reasonable cost if you would prefer.

Best regards

Thanks for that. The pha3 is a great open detailed sound. I should be able to demo the x5 in the next fortnight.

Might revisit the x7 and its modules and perhaps wait for x7ii if x5 isnt quite what im after

Which player are you using now?
By my opinion FiiO both Android players are too raw in software to enjoy them in full their potential. If you have lot of patience or programmer, familiar with sound processing ... maybe an option :)

Agree, but in my opinion ZX2 is only 15/20% better in SQ than X5 and so it should be the price. Not double....
X5III with Music App sounds better than the old Sony.
