It was mentioned above that 'FLACs were screaming..' I am sure a proper burn-in should take care of that. Fiio has a responsive customer service, they are active on Head-fi too. I am pretty confident that they will come up with a firmware update soon.
 
I myself returned the X5iii back in favor of the i5, but really impressed with the X5iii design strategy. It is exactly what a consumer wants, on contrast bigger players like Sony/AK will force you to buy their amps, dacs and weird cables.

About weird cable .. I would say the 2,5 TRRS is not exactly easy for soldier, I agree this is quite a standard  but for me listening DAPs with GRADO PS 1000 it's really difficult look for a custom cable or adapter

Hi, a question about a good matching between X5 3rd and close headphones. I like the pair  X5 / Beyer dt 880, but now I need a close headphone with a good isolation.
Sometime ago I tried Beyer dt 770 (80 ohm)  with old X3 I gen, and musicality/stage were quite good, but I've some doubt about combo X5 iii / 770... Is there someone here that has / had this combo? I'd like to hear about a real experience with these cans or something near his sound. Thanks

I guys I come from IBASSO DX 80 wich is better ... (I speak about sound, power, and musicality), AK100 wich is better, IDSD  nano is better  ... 

About DLNA I have Synology offering DLNA service for audio and video .... so a kind of standard ...Yes, I can install foobar on PC as well but I wouldn't make my life more complex than already is.

Comparison with the iBasso DX80 is fair. I have the DX80 also and it is a fine player and powerful. I would put the SQ on a par with the x5. But the DX80 runs Mango software (available on the DX200 also) but many users want the full Android experience (plus wifi, Bluetooth and the rest),
Re DNLA I meant installling Foobar on the X5 solved my problem. (My files are on a Western Digital Mycloud server).

Just got my X5-3, I noticed that if I were to run Poweramp, the sound level is much lower than the bundled Fiio Music. Is this normal ?

Three weeks with new X5 3. By my opinion – raw Beta version. Lot of promised functions not working – DSD playback among them.
Things to improve:
1.      1.Strange clipping when jumping to another track or jumping forward to the middle of song – processor catches part of previous song for about 0,5 seconds, then “Hr” then new selected track. Solution – some programed muting in software?


2.      2.Fiio X5 3, by my opinion, it is not ready for HR playback. With 16bit – no problems. 24 bit till 96 – no problems. Problems starting from 192. If VU output power meter display is turned on, player start clipping. If you go to SD file tree display – start clipping. Sometimes even freezes – if I go to Viper menu especially. Only way to avoid clipping – turn out display. Have bad feeling that processor it is not capable to handle such big files playback. Hope, that will be fixed. Have feeling, that palyer playing HD files at lower volume - higher resolution, lower volume.


3.      3.Display not rotating – how we can play videos in "smart player"?!


4.      4.Balanced output – great, but ACG it would be even better. It would utilize dual apm architecture to the upmost.


5.      5.Sound signature. There is some space for programmers to improve. Smoothness – great, but lacking of details. Soundstage – lacking depth an wideness (to compare to my Onkyo DP X1). Maybe idea for future – possibility to choose sound signature – neutral, V, U, sharp, bite etc.?


      6.Equalizer – missing function to memorize settings – lot of people are using different headphones, and it is not convenient every time to set up new settings manually.


7.      7.Battery life – have feeling that something (program or hardware) it is draining too fast in standby mode. Onkyo with smaller battery lasts longer.


 8.Power button... Unresponsive, beg for easier way to turn on screen - double tap as in smartphones?
 9.Slow, very slow....
10.Viper effects turns off randomly - can't find system - why?
11.VLC player clipping on every song beginning.

Despite “new toy” syndrome, I am more often coming back to my “old” Onkyo DP X1. Sorry, FiiO…. Looking forward for improvement.

1. You can hear the 0.5s from last song when switching the songs? Are you turning on the Viper effect? What's the format of your songs? Or it is a cue file?
2. We shield the rotating function for the X5III. You need to install a video player first if you want to play videos in the X5III. You may click the enlarging button in the software for full screen display.
3. Do you mean that you want a certain EQ settings for different headphones? If yes, you can reset the custom and some EQ you don't like to get it works.
4. The switch of the Viper effects will turn black suddently?

For the other issues and advices, we will report to our engineers and have a look at them. Thanks again for the support.

Day 2 of my usage of my X5 gen 3, i got nth to say about the in built music app but i am using power amp, after every 4-5 song, it will stop playing. the pause and next song button are also bugged that cause the song to be played fast forward..... Are you able to solve this problem???

We will report to our engineers about that and try to have a look at it. As for the physical buttoms fail to work in power amp:The button of X5III(X7) is strictly based on Android definition. However, third-party APP would make its own definition while using system buttons. So the button definition of system itself and third-party APP might be conflicted. We couldn't change the button definition of third party APP. Therefore, the play/pause or previous/next track button might not able to work perfectly when using third-party APP (These APPs might work fine on cellphones cause most of the cellphones only have volume button for adjustment and no next/previous track button).

I currently have an X5 3rd Gen on order, having owned 5 FiiO DAPS before from the X3 to the X7. I would like to know however, when the next firmware update is to be released and what issues it addresses.

I think a lot of people who have actually purchased their X5iii and potential owners would also like to know also.

My X5 iii will no longer sync when I plug it in to a computer via USB.  It will charge, but the menu giving me the option to transfer files won't appear automatically like it used to.  Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?  Did I accidentally change some kind of option on the Fiio itself or my PC?  Windows doesn't detect the drive when I plug it in either.

I've tried several USB chords so it's not the chord.

Do you mean that the green robot interface wouldn't display in the X5III now? You have switch the mode to storage right? Have you also tried another USB cables and USB ports?

It's not cheap but now the X5 3d is shining. Natural bass, mids, highs and separations. Just getting a little bit closer to nirwana..........

Since looking at your photo, I am very tempted to get the LCD XC.
Its looks like an art on your ears playing beautiful music.
