Hey Fiio, my x5 is not working as a dac. I tried all usb ports and your firmware couldnt detect the device.

Do you mean that in FW1.1.4, the FiiO music still fail to scan all your tracks? 
 
Please try to delete the album folder from 

(internal_sd\FiiOMusic) to see whether it helps?

  It seems like I can have USB DAC mode, or I can have Bluetooth output, but not both?  Not the end of the world, but...
 
I was trying to stream Spotify from my office computer (no bluetooth) to a Bose Mini II SoundLink through the X5iii. But when I set the X5 to USB DAC I can't get any output to the Bose -- not even the Windows playback device test sound.
 
USB DAC works fine through headphones or line-out.  Bluetooth works fine from FiiO Music or Spotify on X5. Pure Music vs Android doesn't seem to matter.
 
Like I said, not the end of the world, but I was hoping to avoid the cable hassle, plus, computer isn't that close to the speaker.  And our WiFi isn't very strong here in my office.

Sorry, and yes the Bluetooth function is not available when the X5III in DAC mode.

Sounds amazing. But if I was starting from fresh, I would probably just get the ALO V5, which is basically a smaller version of the CDM without the DAC section. I think the converters in the X5 are better than the CDM, so don't really need the DAC section. And the V5 form factor really is significantly smaller.

Agree. Not to mention the Cv5 is much more powerful than the CDM. The CDM outputs about half the power balanced (125mW@32 Ohm) as the X5-3 SE (250mW@32 Ohm) so I don't see a need to stack the CDM from a power perspective. Not taking anything away from the reported pleasant tuning of the CDM, but to me the Cv5 makes more sense to stack with the X5-3, if starting from fresh.

This is the sort of post I really don't understand.  The Mods moderate on the posts according to the rules.  I happen to like the X5ii - in fact of all the DAPs I've ever tried, it would be second in SQ behind the LP5 Gold, but first in terms of features offered, and miles ahead of anything I've ever tried in terms of value for money.  Yes - for me it is that good.  But I would never stop people from having a valid opinion voiced.
 
What gets my goat is the amount of "noise" on this thread.  There is the occasional user (and I say this compared to the actual amount of owners!) who has posted with an issue which pertains to them, and maybe some others.  Someone will have an issue with crashes - so one or two jump in and the cry becomes "the UI is buggy and incomplete - we're being used as beta testers".  Yet we don't know if those one or two are because of their cards, or their files, or a myriad of other things they may be trying to do which may not be the norm.  I can only quote myself and Chris (HBB) - haven't had a crash yet for the last 4-5 software updates.  It's pretty much flawless.
 
The issue is people who have not held the product, used the product, heard the product - making noise in the thread, and perpetuating claims that their are serious issues with it.  That is the ongoing noise.  And its frustrating - because its drowning out the reality.
 
My reviewing career is coming to an end because of my work load.  I will buy this from FiiO, and I'm quite happy to return all their other DAPs once I pull the pin.  But this is the one.  My end-game.

Paul I understand where you are coming from and some people are probably not owners of the X5 3 and they do kind of create the idea of problems being bigger than they are..  I will say I might be one of those so I am keeping tuned to the thread, but not ranting about it anymore.  I was wrong to do such in the first place never actually even seeing one in person.  You have a point and were absolutely right.  I apologize to you and all and will refrain from such posts in the future.  My apologies to everyone.  The one poster that stated the talk (I won't mention their name, but they know who they are) probably just struck some kind of nerve with me.  Sorry everyone.
 
I will try to have a more open mind and a better attitude.  I was having problems sleeping and was in a bit of a mood for a few days.  All over now.

  The wallpaper / background keeps reverting back to the mountains when I switch from Pure Music Mode to Android Mode. I had it to the Blackhole live wallpaper (waste of resources, I know...). Is there a way to keep it?

The Blackhole live wallpaper is a gif picture saved as apk format. So it will be turned off in Pure Music mode. We will try to fix it in later firmware if it is available. Thank you for the feedback.

Are you using a laptop or a desktop? Some users have reported it not working on some laptops/tablets because they don't supply enough USB power.

  Add my name to the list of people on this thread who have experienced zero crashes in all the time I've used this DAP. I've been using the player (in Pure Music mode) daily at work to play FLACs and haven't had a single lockup. 
 
I got a bit of a display glitch once when switching from DAP to DAC mode but beyond that, the performance of the X5III for me has been a joy.
 
And based on various comments in this thread, I submitted my order today for a K5 amp/dock (for my desk at work) and an A5 amp (for travel) to go along with my X5III. My thanks to all of you who have posted opinions and recommendations (good and bad) on this thread.
 
Quick question for those of you who are using the X5III with the K5: will the player fit into the dock with the silicone case on it or will I have to remove the X5III from the case first?

@Relic - well said. And thanks for converting my non-technical / purely analogue muso observation into a proper technical reason. That's why head-FI is so awesome.

I'm actually thinking about getting a V5 and leaving it permanently stacked with the X5iii. From a "jeans pocket" point of view, i reckon it's do-able.

I would probably be better off trying an X5 3 that I would be able to return if I did not care for it.  It is the least expensive dap I am interested in.  Then I might be happy with the X5 3 and not need to spend the money on a prcier dap unless I feel I were to not care for they X5 3.  Are there any dealers in San Francisco that would carry the X5 3?  I will be in the city for a day in April for a concert.
