As of last night, I was sure I was going to get a X5 3rd Gen, but all the latest posts seem to be about firmware bugs. It's the reason I sold my X7. It seems like all FiiO's customers are Alpha/Beta testers!
 
Can anyone recommend a DAP up to £1000 that I should shortlist?
 
I have an iFi Audio Micro iDSD Black and Audioquest NightOwl Carbon headphones combination for home use, so that's pretty much sorted, but wanted to upgrade my portable setup of FiiO X5ii, Fidue A83 and Shure SE846.

Thank you for the feedback. The default storage will change to 'internal storage' suddently? Or would it be some operation lead to this? Can the downloaded songs be played after switching to the correct one?
And everytime you install a new version, it would change to 'internal storage'? Does it happen in your phone as well?

no, there is no operation behind it. It happens suddenly and automatically. After the last update actually on a daily basis - which means I have to download my Spotify songs every day! Spotify is almost unusable now!
 
It never happend on my phone or my former (Android) player Onkyo DP-X1!
And switching back to the correct storage (SD card) only leads to the former download folder gets overwritten - so there is no download content anymore!
 
Can you please give me an existimation whether this is a hardware or a software problem? Because like this the player is almost useless for me (I was planning to mainly use it for streaming)...unfortunately...and I am thinking about returning it. Or do you think this problem can be fixed by either changing to a new device or through updates?

Could you elaborate on this a bit more? What do you mean by 'analog sounding kernel'? What kind of sound changes have you identified? Using which app?

 
I listened to my friend's unit using FW 1.0.9 and it sounded so good, analog and very musical. After flashing OTA 1.1.4, it sounds sterile and sour. So I build new purist ROM with 1.0.9 kernel mixed here.

@Fiio: Just joined the club. Very Happy ! (I'm thinking to sell my Sony ZX2). Two question :
 
1) Mainly I use folder view, but is it normal not having displayed thumbsnails of the songs (to the left) ?
    If I use JetAudio Plus player they are correctly displayed (although in playlist section the field "Artist" says " Unknown Artist" 

 
2) Again in folder view I have anomalous alphabetic order, example of the sequence::
  
   Adani & Wolf - You Bring Me Down     (OK)
   A Taste Of Honey - Boogie Ooogie      (!?)
   Abba - Waterloo                                (!?)

Anyone else having problems when turning on resume on the fiio music app, whenever I turn it on and I turn off the device and turn it back on, it seems will play the last song but after the song finishes the app crashes. Then when I open the fiio music app again it will be fine for a minute or two but it crashes again.

Similar but not entirely the same here with 1.14. Crashes when attempting to play random song from all songs then it tries to automatically play previously played song for a minute or two and then crashes. Playing albums through are fine.

I meant to say when i pause a track and want to go back to beginning in the same pause mode, it doesn't happen and the track starts playing. Should it not remain in the pause mode at the start also?

We have contacted the engineer about that. The battery life of your X5III is normal. Because of the chip limitation, our X5III may have bigger stanby current than some phones.

Then I assume that the X5iii in "standby mode" has a sustained consumption of approximately 10% every 8 hours.
Therefore the best option to extend the life of the battery and the useful life of the X5 itself is the total shutdown at night.
Actually the boot time is not very high, so for me it is acceptable to boot from scratch in the mornings.
 
Can FiiO engineers add the possibility of scheduled shutdown at the time the user chooses?
Currently in the "Power-off timers" menu there are only two options, a sleeping counter up to 120m and a shutdown counter up to 50m.
 
A third time-scheduled shutdown option would be required

fw 1.1.4 greatly improved the stability of FiiO player to me. Very large playlists shuffle is still slow thought, but I can live with that. Android is much more reactive aswell.
 
My only wishes are:
 
- make the equalizer functions work in spotify PLEASE
- allow us to increase wifi signal strength, as downloading via wifi is unreliable/slow.

The equalizer in the fiio app actually started to affect spotify after I rooted my x5.

Fat32. I also switched the SD cards, and the issue still happened with slot 2. It's not the cards. Did a factory reset too. Not sure why this is happening. Could the tray be faulty or is there someone else still having the error?

  Ok, here is an embarrassing question, but I'll ask anyway.  I got the unit and all is fine, except I inserted my micro SD card in a slot without first putting it in the tray.  I'm so used to just inserting the card with my old Fiio that I just habitually did it here without thinking.  And, of course, I can't get the card out of the slot.  I put my music on the internal storage and I still have the other slot, so it's not like I can't use the player, but it's still annoying.  
 
Any ideas on how to get the the card out of the slot?  Thanks.

Is there any solution for the display problem of special chars (for example german umlaute).
They are displayed as chinese chars .

Please try to clear the data of the FiiO Music from Settings(Andriod mode)--Apps--All--FiiO Music--Clear the data to see whether it helps?

This is what I also find strange. What your describing is exactly what I was getting with my first X5III but since getting another its not loosing the Spotify Sync even after a full power off. Only other thing I'm also doing different from last time is that I only have a microSD in Slot 1. I had two microSD's in the previous one I tried. Maybe that has something to do with it. Try it with just one SD card installed to see if anything improves.
