Hi everybody, do 3rd-Party-apps like Spotify use the AKM 4490 DAC? I noticed that on my Pioneer XDP-300R sound quality with Spotify is pretty bad because only the native "Music"-App uses ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC. So how it works on the X5-III?

All music goes through the dual DAC's.

Compared to X5-2, the treble is maybe a bit recessed, but it is very very smooth.

Mids and bass are improved in every single dimension possible though...

X5-3 is not exactly treble recessed per se, but it is really really smooth. Hard to describe as the treble is there and it is extra detailed. The soundstage is there as well and it is deeper and better layered than X5-2. Considerably so... It just doesn't bite. The whole sound is audibly different from X5-2 and mids and bass were improved a lots.. The treble is also much more detailed. IT just doesn't sound the same way.

At any rate, X5-3 is one of the most enjoyable DAPs on the market at this moment and the only other DAP that I would buy rather than X5-3 is X7 as I actually like X7 quite a lot.

Waiting on the next X7 and with the stable FW and really fluid UI we've seen on X5-3, I'm sure that X7 will be an even bigger and better hit!

:frowning2: its message like this which makes me think should i wait for X7 G2 :frowning2: as there is always that bit better around the corner (bit - is a relative measurement in pyschoascoustics - more about perception at times than real)  :D

How far is X7 G2 ? just curious

Any other comments regarding 3.5mm vs 2.5mm balanced? And which one will provide better SQ with my Shure SE846?

A button that only boost the Sub Bass, no mid bass but just deep dark bass pit.when button pushed when the song calls for sub bass it will produce an earthquake around the person using the X5III.

Hi jmills8,

We will report your requirement for our product  manager.

antz123,

The X7 2nd gen is estimated to release into market in the middle of this year if everything goes smoothly.

Hi (to maybe somebody from Fiio)!

I just received my X5 III - and coming from an Onkyo DP-X1, I really like the more musical sound, the smaller form factor and better battery life!
beyersmile.png

But I am having the following issues:

1. The Android EQ of streaming apps (Spotify and Apple Music) does not seem to work with the X5? It is shown properly in the menu (see picture), but if you use the sliders there are no sound changes at all! It worked flawlessly (and surprinsingly well) on my DP-X1! Interestingly enough, after plugging in a balanced cable, the two extra sliders for "bass" and "surround" get greyed out (second picture). I remember that actually the latter also happened on my DP-X1 at the beginning, but disappeared after a while (maybe due to a software update)? So I suppose this is either a software bug or the Android EQ is switched off in the Fiio firmware?
Any solutions anybody? I find it kind of a pity not being able to use the Android EQ, because Viber Effects also only work in the Fiio Music App and not system wide....

2. It seems that is does not work to set up a " launcher" as a standard screen, to create one`s own skin - as it is usually possible on any Android device (and was on my DP-X1). With the Fiio, it says "Select dodol Launcher, then tap ALWAYS", for example,  but actually nothing happens. Is this also not allowed by the firmware?

3. The download speed for streaming Apps is really, really slow, it takes maybe four to five times (!) longer than it used to take with my DP-X1! Is this buggy, too, or does it have any other technical back ground?

4. The stand by light is always blue - is it still ok to leave the device in stand by mode without losing too much battery? I actually never swiched my DP-X1 off and it did not use much battery in stand by (at least if I had Wifi off). Also, I realized that pushing the stand by button on the X5 after the screen turned black, it sometimes starts or stops playing music - must be a bug, too, I guess?

Thanks for any solution!

The X5-3 EQ lowers the volume when engaged (including the custom preset) to avoid clipping when raising the EQ sliders. I vastly prefer this to FiiO's last FW for the X5-2 which implemented a dynamic EQ which made it near impossible to accurately adjust the EQ.

Thanks but, I don't like that behavior at all and that's reason why I used Player Pro on my X7. Cowon implements an excellent EQ, it does not drop volume when adjusting the EQ. I wish Fiio would implement an EQ like Cowon JetEffects which is best EQ around.

When i "power on" EQ, x5 volume drops dramatically :frowning2:

Ok, x RELIC x says is "to avoid clipping when raising the EQ sliders" and may be a reasonable reason

But I really do not like that behavior, and that's why I do not use the EQ too much.

Yes, I too hate that. I wish Fiio would implement an EQ like Cowon JetEffects.

Thanks! So no matter which Player I use (native music app, Poeweramp, etc.) I have always the same sound quality? That would be a big advantage compared to the Pioneer.

It's been covered before. There is no other way for a digital audio signal to be converted to an analogue signal without using the DACs in the X5-3.

FiiO has bypassed Android SRC so the sound quality should be the same unless the other apps have something different from the FiiO player app that makes them sound different.

....all the audio signals will be processed by the underlying audio architecture, which will work with the DAC's and other related chips. There might be a little difference between the sound from the FiiO Music and other apps, since they could use different codec or sound effect.

There is no SRC on the X5 3rd gen, so the sound quality from a third-party app is also guaranteed
