and with android limitations due to its ****ty core components, you can't play beyond 44,1Khz using these well established apps on the X5 III
No really, i'd prefer an OS which doesn't suck the battery with useless threads and services runiing in the background.
Apart that FiiO has explicitly stated that they doesn´t do SRC with 3rd party apps, I didn´t knew that iPhone could outout more than 48kHz vie the headphone jack.
I think what he mean is the previous and next button can be adjust via software, some people prefer the next button on top. Some people prefer on bottom. Also I'm waiting for the DOP feature. Once you update this feature, fiio x5 iii will be my ultimate device!!

Yes, Android is a resource eater. The more it gets updated, the more resources it needs. We don't need full Android for DAPs, we need light OS like iOS and Windows which can run on Dual Core processors and 1GB RAMs flawlessly.
I wish companies like Fiio, Cowon, iRiver would develop a standalone OS for DAPs which is bug free and efficient.
I think we've lost the north... FiiO, Cowon, iRiver or even iBasso are not software developers. Their aim is to make portable audio devices. They're specialists in audio hardware.

Even if iphone could theoretically process data over 48kHz, you would not hear it. That is because the DAC and AMP stages in it are far too weak and un-resolving to make a difference. Even Xiaomi mi max, HTC or most phones don't make a difference with Hi-Res vs RedBook files. Tested this personally and I couldn't hear a single difference with either unless the hi-res was part of another remaster.
I just put all my files on 3.5inch floppy drives, it is very secure because the boxes I store them in weigh over 100 pounds each. Most of the time it only takes 10 floppies per song but when you listen real close it almost sounds like you are listening to vinyl.
Floppies are one of the best way of keeping your music alive! Just like that guy with the 6 metric tones of magazines
Just imagine, every song in FLAC would require just ~20 floppies, my collection of 6000 songs would be around barely 120.000 floppies and 20 grams per floppy would equal just 2.4 metric tones of floppies.
It is still less than the collection of 6 metric tones of magazines.
It was a good joke at that! When floppies where already going out, I was too young to know them well. But I've saw at least 10 around my home and they looked really freaky thinking how little space they could hold.
Imagine that a mSD is holding the same information in 1 grams of matter. I love evolution of technology.
About X5-3. And Android. FiiO did their best to open the world for you (well technically not me, I don't really like any app better than their own). Anyways, they did this for us as customers. We finally get Android. Even if they wanted to help us, each app dev needs to create support for their own apps! It is literally impossible for FiiO to do it as they are not the main creators of those apps. Their basic app is their responsibility, but so far it works well. I was satisfied with it for the most part and honestly consider that it was really adequate for my usage patterns!

Something I've been thinking. I'd love for Fiio to make a device purely with people in mind who use external DACs. By that I mean, that they don't worry quite as much about the built in audio, but to give the device a number of connections (not this shared port business), spend some time on the software to make it easy and intuitive, give it a nice stacking kit and dual card slots.
I can't say that I've seen anyone else do this, and might create a new market segment for them
Hey guys i have a fiio x3ii and im wondering if its worth the upgrade to the x5iii or maybe even the x5ii. I've heard that some people could not tell the difference between the x5ii and the x3ii, also im completely fine with the x3ii features so its purely on the sound aspect. On a side note wouldn't a fiio A5 stacked with the x3ii pretty much minimize the differences between this and the x5iii's sound? In general i have a tough time if at all to tell the differences between sources when the same amp is used unless its a really cheap DAC or source, for example my Little Dot i+ plugged into my fiio x3ii vs my xonar d2x sound card which is technically i more expensive DAC i believe i cant tell any difference.

OS is pivotal for the success of devices like these. When Fiio announced their first android DAP, I was amazed that I was going to get rid that scrappy wheel. I was really happy with X7 until the bugs started to dent my enjoyment with it and I felt alas I could have lived with that scrappy wheel. I am not talking about Apps here I am talking about device stability, my X7 used turn off in the middle several times and the side controls did not respond at times etc...
OS is very important these devices success and this is where the mighty Nokia lost it's way and ended up bottom. I still use my Nokia 808 for it's amazing camera.
Why can't these companies develop a simple OS for DAPs and get rid of this ever buggy Android.
This is my personal opinion and many people around here actually prefer android DAPs.

Mostly because Linux environment is unstable on PC as well. Unless you're doing barebones, the nature of Linux is to be unstable unless you're really into it.
X5-3 did not shut down mid song or anything while I was testing it, so it should be stable.
About stability of an OS at launch, just look for Nintendo Switch videos... They were crippled by all kinds of bugs. Just the nature of software to be complex and unless someone starts writing it from the ground up, there will be some things to surface after a product's release.
Let's embrace X5-3 for what it is, which is a great DAP! Stable, good battery, smooth sound. IT is what it is after all.

How do you stack the X5 III and the A5? I'm trying to do it now and it looks like the rubber band up top will overlap/push the Play/Pause button! Kinda bad design..
