Is it my imagination (or my memory really that bad, a distinct possibility), or did the GUI for the native player change with the last firmware upgrade?
Actually, that's really a question for @jkbuha ... in your travels through the x5iii's inner workings, have you come across any code that would confirm that "In Vehicle" mode bypasses battery charging? Perhaps that's a quick option for those of us with K5 docks to keep our batteries safer?
That's been the case since we left 1.2.1 & the 3.4.3 FiiO Music App. Firmware 1.2.2, 1.2.3 & FiiO Music App 1.0.8 & 1.0.9, respectively, have changed the interface. You'll now find replaygain, more customizable themes, better alphabetical sorting, and a distinct lack of vipereffects and a VU meter. My device no longer displays the VU meter.
Hmmm. Well, sir, anything you can do to bring us common plebians adaptive charging via the kernel would certainly be appreciated. Will post any and all info on the battery once the new one arrives. While I have the unit open, is there any other information I can provide? Not that I've seen. But in-vehicle mode is a ROM feature, and that part of the code is not accessible, because (i) it's in the ROM not in the kernel, and more importantly, (ii) that part is closed source

Thanks for clarifying! So the $$$ (not a lot, grant you) I paid for the select Viper Effects are bye-bye then? That's been the case since we left 1.2.1 & the 3.4.3 FiiO Music App. Firmware 1.2.2, 1.2.3 & FiiO Music App 1.0.8 & 1.0.9, respectively, have changed the interface. Well, let's start with this (do take note of the embedded fingerprints I noted when I first got it open!):Adaptive kernel charging is what I'm working on next, once I've updated a significant chunk of the kernel code (suffice to say most of it hasn't been touched since 2011, hence you can imagine which particular circle in Dante's hell I find myself in at the moment...)
If you could upload some clear photos of the innards of the FiiO, eg: PCB, components etc, I'll be able to source the updated drivers for the chips in question. Next on the list would be updated drivers for the AK4490 for example...
Exactly, i was a user of viper, and very disappointed it was no longer part of the fiio music app, as their partnership with viper ran out. Still, the pure music mode sounds pretty darn good to me.Also disappeared from app is the not very efficient lyrics service. not sure how to feel of a company providing things to sell you on the product and then taking them back. It would be like taking my car in to the dealership for service and they pulled out some parts without replacement.
