So...did not realize neutron was just a trial haha, though it does make sense. Would anyone know of a good, free alternative to the FiiO music app while the album art issue is being looked into? I'd rather not go through my library and remove the art if I don't have to. If I end up having to do that, I guess I really can, but I'd like to avoid that if I can.

Hiby, foobar, or power amp.

i want report two bugs/problems with review unit:

1. USB DAC has delay in sound. Changing buffer settings to minimal latency helps but small delay is still there and after cca 1 hour of gaming with 24bit/44khz and minimal latency buffer sound artifacts appear. This never happened with 2nd gen. No delay. No artifacts.

2. Transfer speed from hdd to micro sd through USB 3.0 is max 5MB/s and after while drops to only like 70-100kb/s. This is exactly same issue as with 2nd gen. Im sure problem is not in pc as hdd to hdd transfer with same USB port is 50MB/s no problem. Could it be cable? I use original 2nd gen cable for both of them because i didnt receive cabel with 3rd review unit.

 1. Which version of OS is your computer running with? And how long is the latency?

 2. Is it the same when you transfer directly from the computer to the X5?

I addition to the issues some have been experiencing, I am unable to play most of the music (all FLAC) on my first SD card slot. I am using 2x256GB Samsung microSD cards, with around 6000-8000 songs on each. The scan function only identifies the first 1000 and it would seem that any after this can't be played even when using the folder browser. I have even tried manually launching the files from ES File Explorer to no avail. PowerAmp finds and plays them just find, and even the FiiO Music app has no issues with songs in the second card slot. I have reported this to FiiO Support and am awaiting a response.

enragedlemon,  the firmware version of your X5 3rd gen is FW1.1.1, right ?

How often does Fiio typically release generational updates to their DAPs?

I'm just wondering when we might reasonably expect to see the release of X7 2nd generation?

My primary headphones are the HD600.
I like what I'm reading about the X5 3rd gen, but am worried that it's not powerful enough to bring out the best in my HD600.
The X7 with the AM5 amp module (or the AM3 balanced) is probably the best match for the HD600, but I feel like I want to wait until the 2nd generation of the X7 (so that they can implement everything they've learned from the success of the X5 3rd gen: dual SD slots, an arguably better UI, etc).

What do you guys think?

TheEldestBoy,

Please kindly note the life cycle of FiiO players is 18-24 months, we will in line with the market competition and the process of our R&D development to release our new arrivals step by step.

Hi Fiio,

Yes firmware 1.1.1. My cards are formatted as exFAT and the files were copied onto the root of the cards via PC. I am going to try getting the X5 to format them and copy the files into a folder called Music on the cards. I have also run a task to remove the album art from the tagging. I will try copying to the cards again tonight.

So that means any 3rd party player (poweramp, neutron, hiby, UAPP) will use dual DACs and sound the same as the Fiio built in player?

The apps will not use the dual DACs direclty, but all the audio signals will be processed by the underlying audio architecture, which will work with the DAC's and other related chips. There might be a little difference between the sound from the FiiO Music and other apps, since they could use different codec or sound effect.

enragedlemon, the way you have your files tagged will cause these problems. Size of artwork is the biggest problem. I have over 8000 file on 2 sandisk 256 cards with 240 X 240 art work embedded in all the song and all works fine.

I have stripped the buggers out now! Doesn't matter to me too much either way. I will re-copy tonight!

New toy arrived & a completely new learning curve for me - nothing like my old I-pod / I-tunes. Seems weak on playlist functionality. Can anyone please recommend any 3rd party software / player to create playlists / smart playlists quickly & easily for the x5(3)? Ideally, something that can work on both my pc (Windows 10) and my X5(3). Wondering if Media Monkey might be a good option?

Still, that is a really big oversight and this just keeps happening. Not really something a user should be dealing with. My Android phone doesn't care less about size of image and mine vary fairly widely.
