FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Not wanting a product simply because it's android is very debatable. This isn't even one of those things where it's like "oh you have your opinion, I have mine". There's literally nothing wrong with android. Especially considering if it has the same layout as an android phone, which I own, then it will probably make looking through albums a lot easier. It's rather cumbersome to navigate on the fiio x5 ii, even with all the little tricks you have to find out along the way. Not to mention that godly volume wheel. Uggggh shiver me timbers, look at it. How fricken awesome would it be to turn a volume wheel when you have the thing in your pocket instead of the laggy side buttons which are so difficult to use.

About Android, I do think that FiiO did a good job with it, but I mostly used it to play music and play music. And play music. Using folder browsing and FiiO built-in app. Works well.

Please let me explain my very debatable statement:   I live in the woods a
long way from an INTERNET pipe of any sort and must rely on satellite for
the web.  The bandwidth is limited.  Google will download endless updates
for no apparent reason so I steer clear of such nonsense.

So pardon my bias!  But it is still a reason for my buying a 2nd Gen.  That
and $185 versus $400!

Riiiiight because I'm so sure the big volume knob on the side is to turn down when your mother in law is getting loud on the phone. And the two memory card slots must be for keeping all your porn there too. I'm not complaining about internet capability. What do you think I use my android phone for anyways? Phone calls?

What I meant is that I don't use browsing by anything else but folder, I don't use external apps to play music, I don't use wifi to play music, I don't use DLNA, UPP thingy nor anything like that. No streaming either. I have very basic needs when it comes to a DAP

Would someone please refresh my memory, is it possible to play FLAC files off a flash drive when connected to the X5 II via a Micro USB B Male To USB 2.0 A Female OTG Host Converter Cable Adapter like this one?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2Colors-Micro-USB-B-Male-To-USB-2-0-A-Female-OTG-Host-Converter-Cable-Adapter-M-/262484665631?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275

Any information would be appreciated!

EDIT: I scrolled back and learned that OTG functionality was removed.

Thank You!

Yes you can, but you'll need to be on fw 1.2. FiiO did away with the OTG function after that fw.

Owned 3 of those? What do you do with them, eating or beating them?

Had to sell my precious X5-2 due to financial constraints... You wouldn't believe how sad I was all the time without it

It is all good now that I have it again with me and this time it is black - which I find really good looking.

Kinda wish that the texture of the black unit would be similar to the texture of the titanium, but it looks very nice either way. I really like black devices.

Hello guys,
I am a young FiiO user. I just bought Fiio X5II + A5, all new and have a black color.
I found that both of them becoming worm while working. A5 much warmer that x5II.
Is it normal for X5II to warm, become very warm?
I use:
1. X5II + Ostry KC06a = player is warm always.
2. X5II + A5 + JVC SZ2000 = player is warm always and amp is very worm, I would say maybe hot.
And I wonder is it Ok or it is abnormal and it is a reason to worry about?

Thank you.

They should get warm, but not hot. Warm is normal.
