Flashed 1.73 at the end of last week, and for a few days it looked like this had fixed things. But this evening I found that the R earhook had connected to my phone sometime during the day and managed to drain its battery. The L had not connected and was fully charged. Both earhooks have been sitting in the case sitting on my desk, so there's no chance the top came open.

@FiiO : Unfortunately your engineers need to look at this issue further. This is by far the most annoying aspect of this device.

With your latest firmware 1.73, I cannot adjust the volume when I am pairing my UTWS5 with my BTA30 Pro.

I have a second pair of the UTWS5 which still runs firmware 1.5 and this one works fine. When paired with my BTA30 Pro, the volume can be adjusted from the ear-hook buttons.

Can you try this, yourself?
Can you offer a solution?

PS: The volume adjustment, as well as all the rest, functions as intended when paired with my smartphone. The issue is only with the BTA30 Pro.

For the record, the only two UTWS5 functions that have ever worked with the BTA30 Pro are Volume adjustment and Play/Pause. Next/Previous song has never worked. Now, however, not even the volume adjustment works. Play/Pause still works with the 1.73 firmware, though.

I thought the issues were finally ironed out. I've been on this firmware for a week and the problem just started. I tried clearing the pairing etc. but it doesn't help.

My first UTWS5 didn't even charge, it was DOA. And now this. Disgraceful.

Update: 20 minutes later.

They both started at 100%.

Update 2: After charging both sides back to 100% and listening for half an hour:

I think most of the critical issues have been resolved since version 1.73.
My only complaint is that the volume in transparency mode is still too low compared to 1.5.

Can I ask you to fix that issue?

For those who are still having issues after the 1.73 update, I leave the procedure I tried.

1. The settings from each version (1.4, 1.5, 1.7, etc.) seem to be preserved after the update. When I update, the settings seem to be reset, but when I downgrade, the old settings are still there. I suspected that these saved settings were having an impact.

2. so I downgraded to a firmware I've used before, put it in a case, and did a factory reset 2-3 times, repeating the process for both 1.4 and 1.5.

3. I then updated again to 1.73 and repeated the factory reset by putting it in the charging case for another 2-3 times.

After that I no longer experienced the issue of it connecting when charging was complete.

It does charge to 89% when battery protection mode is on, unlike 1.5, but it's not a serious issue.

In 1.5, there was an issue with EQ settings being reset frequently, but this has been resolved in 1.73.

It would certainly seem that way. My first unit didn't even charge, this one is only two months old. Furious.

This Is why I return my utws 5 too. I mean random connect to random source and drained battery everyday will kill battery fast

The actual reason (at least I think it is the one) is that Samsung used AOSP Bluetooth stack instead of Qualcomm's one, probably because of SSC.
I guess it would be possible to do something about this with root (it's possible to get LHDC on Red Magic 8 Pro according to this xda thread, and it didn't support LHDC initially), so maybe there's a way to get QHS working on Samsung phones as well. But it will require root, is the bootloader even unlockable on Samsung phones? Maybe you can ask author there if it's possible.

I couldn't return either unit because I was told at the post office I can't send charging cases in the mail. So that's nearly $300 wasted on this product.

AOSP-based ROMs aren't good in terms of using all the hardware features (especially for Snapdragons), so CLO-based ones are better. And there are exactly zero CLO ROMs with LHDC right now (tho Paranoid Android might become one of them soon).
