When will 2 pin be available? And do you have a new model of UTWS coming?
Hi,

The 2pin version is out of stock currently. We do not have the estimated time for next batch currently. Our engineer are working on the new uTWS but we could not provide the estimated time now as well.
Stay tuned!

Best regards

Any recommendations for detachable 2-pin iems that I could slot into these? The form factor is brilliant but my IMR iems scratch my ears (literally they draw a little blood) because the plugs are aligned perpendicular to the UTWS1's pins, and the shells are too large. I also tried out Nuforce HEM8 but they are 0.75 2-pin, not 0.78

Tagging @Wyville as he has experience with audiophile work-outs, and this would be my use case.
So something rather rugged... And on the smaller side maybe, although with the plugs aligned the right way that would probably be a moot point. I enjoy a forward tuning and punchy bass. I'm not someone who settles for convenience over SQ while working out, but I wouldn't want to endanger a $500 pair of iems while inverting and doing calisthenics, so summit-fi CIEMS are a no-go
Much appreciation to anyone with suggestions.

IMR are metal shells, right? That might be part of the problem as well. Resin shells will probably be a better option because of their smoothness. I have used quite big IEMs with resin shells without issues, but I think it also depends on how their shape fits your ears. Custom Art's universal IEMs could work, as those are smaller and very well built, but unfortunately their prices have gone up with the newer models.

Are you using foam tips, btw? That might potentially help with a more secure fit and cause less rubbing of the IMR shells. (Just a thought.)

I think the critical thing for an IEM that will be attached to these is that you need enough nozzle length to adjust the depth of insertion. Because the earpieces are less flexible than cable, they can have a tendency to pull the nozzle out if the nozzle isn’t getting into the canal all the way.

Thanks Wyville! You are right, resin shells are the way to go I think. I’ll look into Custom Art - actually I’ve seen the Fibae name all over Head-fi but didn’t even know what brand produced them. I’ll do my research but sound-wise may I ask what your take is on them?

Foam tips have indeed proved a must to even keep the IMR in my ears for more than ten minutes with the UTWS1, they mitigate the pain but the shape and angle remain unsustainable (plus they are not my preferred option with those iems, but that would be manageable).

Thank you Matthew, and you are absolutely right, I have to keep that in mind. For instance my Nuforce HEM8 are on the shorter/smaller side and they don’t reach deep enough. I’ve always struggled with fit on them because of their narrow nozzle relative to my wider ear canals; Klipsch produce amazing silicone tips that solved the seal problem when I wear them normally, but with the UTWS1 it’s not enough.

If you’ve got trouble with narrower IEMs like Nuforce or Shure, I just found these recently:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008PF0YD0/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_k1-7EbZHK6Y5F

They’re a lot longer than most foamies, and as a guy with weirdly large ear canals, I can say they work where a lot of other approaches will fail.

Custom Art makes some of the most musical IEMs I know and offer very good value. I reviewed FIBAE Black a while back and those are very impressive IEMs. Not detail monsters and a bit more laid-back, but incredibly musical and technically very capable. FIBAE 2 (from a very distant memory) might have a bit more sparkle and FIBAE 3 (from what they explained to me) is brighter and more energetic without being harsh. I always feel Custom Art really know how to tune a great bass in all their models, although it is always BA (I believe IMR is DD, right?). I believe they will be able to send you demo units if you are unable to demo locally, so if you find them interesting enough that might be something to ask them for.

I looked into it last night and had already discarded the possibility of getting CA units because there is zero mention of a return policy on their website for universal iems, and the reviews are positive yet bring out plenty of concerns... But demo units could be a great way to solve that problem. Thanks again for your insights.

The lack of a return policy is probably because Custom Art does not have standard universals, instead they make them according to the customer's design in the same way they make CIEMs. So you can design their universal IEMs entirely to your own preferences, but that does of course mean the universals can't be returned just like you can't do that with customs.

Just as an example, I bought the Ei.3 (discontinued and replaced by FIBAE Black) as my first "head-fi" IEMs and came up with this design:

That is really great, I have to get me some of those.
In return a tip of my own: the CP240 Spinfit tip package is great, I don’t care much about the tips themselves as I don’t cope well with double-flange, but the inserts turn narrow nozzles into regular diameter ones: here's the L product page on Amazon. Makes a big difference when you have trouble getting a full seal. The inserts are compatible with any regular tips.

Any idea when it will be launched? Just so to wait instead of purchasing the current version.

Dear user,

If everything goes well, the new uTWS version will be available at the end of this year.

Best regards
