FiiO Q7 Portable Desktop-Class DAC and Headphone Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

Mine was wired, lightning to USB C.
I have something similar too but it only happens with Apple Music so I think its app related. There is a split second jitter when it switches to Lossless presumably from buffering.

There are other things that you have not accounted for.

1. During DC fast charging where Q7 will draw current at 12V. Not sure if it is charging at 2A but the Q7 does top charge relatively quickly even during usage.
2. Q7's own power consumption

The power supply will send as much current at 12V as needed up to its maximum rated 12V/2A (24W). I believe you're right in that there may be some extra headroom which is always nice.
@FiiO
Could you consider (as well as you provided the PL50 unit) provide us a portable 12v external battery with minimum 50Ah capacity and 2A output.
That would allow us to use the Q7 unit in a portable manner while keeping the Ultrahigh gain that makes a huge difference in sound quality and may not be used while using the Q7 internal battery.
Thanks in advance for your interest in that proposal. Jean-Pierre

You can try a Baseus 100W Power Bank 20000mAh Type C PD Fast Charging Powerbank. I use it to charge the 12V DC input of the iBasso DX320 MAX Ti. Costs is about $70 for the V2 though they introduced a smaller form factor V2 recently. Just grab a USB-C to 12v 2.5mm converter cable which costs about $5 to connect them.

Thanks for this input. However, I'm a bit afraid to damage my Q7 and that's the reason I asked Fiio to provide such a battery. By the way, what is the position of Fiio about using such a device?
I dont think they have an official position, perhaps they can chime in. I also use a linear 12v power supply from iFi on the M17 no issues.

Dear friend,

Thanks for your kind feedback. But we don't have this plan currently.
You could choose the reliable battery bank made by better brand for help.
We will report your feedback to our product manager as well.

Best regards

Here are my 2 cents on the Q7:
I am using it almost daily now for 1½ month, both on USB and Bluetooth input. Must say I am thoroughly impressed by the pleasant sound quality. It is making me hear so much nuances, details and dynamics; acoustic music and voices sound natural. Bass is fast, tight and can go deep, the acoustics of a recording venue, studio or recording booth are easily discernable. Differences between headphone cables are easy to appoint.

It drives my beloved HD800 phones very well with plenty of power. Especially with the Q7 in Ultra High Gain mode the headphones are oozing purity, but also rawness if called for.
And it is taking little physical space on my small table next to my listening chair, what more do I want?

Have ordered the PL50, curious to hear if it will enhance the sound quality one or two notches. Will report.

I'm hoping someone can help....

I cannot get the Q7 to enter Bluetooth pairing mode. I push and hold the play/pause button and nothing happens. It will not go into pairing mode. I also tried holding the next track and prev track button and nothing happens. The LED just keeps going through random colors indicating no signal.

It's odd. It worked last night but now it will not connect. I tried most the stuff in the Fiio FAQ webpage. I tried a factory reset. I tried the other reset method and nothing works. It works fine in USB mode. The only thing I have not done is try to update XMOS firmware with my Windows computer.

I attempted to update the firmware but it got interrupted. That might be the cause but literally everything else works besides the Bluetooth.

Update: I'm all set! Fiio has been SUPER helpful and is going to reflash the Q7. I'm sending it to them today.

Short click to top button - will allow to choose input.

For me when Bluetooth is chosen - pairing mode is automatically, when Q7 not connected to any device.
If connected - I am disconnecting it first, and then connection to another device.

Thanks for this suggestion. It is in Bluetooth mode but it will not connect to any new device or existing pairing. It will not go into pairing mode like it should when I press and hold the play/pause button.

I use the Sharge 100 (was known as Shargeek Storm 2) and a DC cable that I got off amazon with Zero issues. I also used it on the M17 when I had that.

Dear friend,

You may check whether poking the reset hole could help?

Best regards

I tried that multiple times. Doesn’t help. I think the Bluetooth firmware was corrupted due to the failed update. Is there a way to update the Bluetooth firmware without Bluetooth connection?
