It will be interesting to hear about your experience with Pure mode.
Other question: did you play with different filters? Do they make significant difference to the sound when you are rolling them?
I will definitely test it, although I do a LOT of Tidal listening so it's not my main use case.

Yes I switched filters a bit, default is fast roll-off linear right now I am on slow roll off, linear phase which has always been my favorite filter.
Note that if you listen to DSD mainly, filters are bypassed, it only applies to PCM.

What's the point of the data sheet,if the chip isn't implemented right the data sheet is null, not saying FiiO didn't implement it right, but plenty other haven't.

The point is it's the only documentation about those filters and they are inherently built in the DAC chip... M17 is dual unmodified ESS9038 Pro and the options are there in the settings so how do you know it's not implemented? I am puzzled... @Whitigir could certainly help there maybe I am all wrong but I assume FiiO can't change the output or the inherent programming of the DAC it's not FPGA...

I just had a private mail from Fiio confirming my findings. Wian says that all Fiio DAP’s suffer from the same issue to a greater or lesser degree. As I suspected, It is the amps powering on and off to manage battery consumption and heat, Although they have included a mute circuitry, they are unable to completely eliminate the noise. They will try to further attenuate it with future firmware updates. So, for those of you who can’t hear it, either your ears or your headphones are not sensitive enough to detect it. Regardless and, as it is now, it is there in all units.

I think it is safe to say that the M17 will have a Pro and Ti version soon. they will put a 5.2 bluetooth, 8GB/512GB RAM/HDD and more beefier CPU. If they can get the snapdragon 888 and 120hz refresh it would be the greatest.

It is safe to say you haven't been reading the posts in the last few years.

I don't think @whitgirl designed this or even works at FiiO,but I'd be interested in their take.

Well, last week (just before the weekend) shops here were supplied and have it in stock as of right now. But my dealer is still stating it is in backorder, so I'm hoping they're just assigning stock to outstanding orders before setting the status to 'in stock'. Fingers crossed.

As far as I know, shops were allocated a set number of units for the first shipment which, the shops then sent out to pre-order clients on a first come first served, a was second in line for whatever units AMP3 had received and they are now awaiting the second batch. The M17 is in high demand worldwide so, I would put in a pre-order if I was you.

i wonder how m17 would be with both sony ier z1r and more so with u12t, anyone can chime in please, the reason i ask is cause sony hads recessed mids and u12t somehow could be perceived with some sources a bit dark, so I really wonder how m17 would synergize with those 2 items
I just got my M17 on Friday and been listening to it with my IER-Z1R and so far it's a pretty good combo. I have not done a direct comparison with the DMP-Z1 yet, but as far as I can recalled, I am leaning towards the DMP more with the IER-Z1R if I had to choose one over another but I am happy with the M17.
