Not, in fact, we plan to remove the optical out from m17 because we can't figure out how to protect the optical connector.
Must’ve been quite a hard decision to make.

I have dap that goes 20 Hz down and I miss something in the very low end. It's between earing and feeling. M11 pro can reveal this very low end a little more and it's give music a special epic feeling. I don't know.
You might be one of the lucky ones to hear below 20Hz, there are documented examples of people hearing down to 15Hz, but it's extremely rare. There is no evolutionary need to hear those frequencies.

5Hz, though, it's unheard-of, pun intended :)

Even if you do hear below 15Hz, your headphones also need to be able to reproduce that, and, importantly, the entire system needs to provide enough volume of those frequencies.
You see, the perceived loudness is not linear, it's like a Gauss curve. If your system produces a linear level from 20Hz to 20k Hz, you will perceive the bass and the highs quieter then the mids. It's human nature. The lower you get, the quieter is seems to us (one of the reasons you "get" less bass when listening at low volume).
That means that even if you are lucky to be sensitive to around 15Hz frequencies, your system will have to be much louder at those frequencies for you to hear them.
Unfortunately, even if the player and headphones can, in theory, go down to 5Hz, they will be rolled off, certainly not louder, at those frequencies.

Having said that, it is possible to feel the frequencies you can't hear, which is why some deaf people go to concerts. You feel the vibration caused by the air being compressed and stretched. Personally I don't like my iems to vibrate in my ear, it makes my ear canal itch, but that's just me.

Sorry for the long post.

Theoretically speaking, 5Hz will bring you hallucinations :p. You may see your great grand parents who voted as well. Here is an article, but I don’t think there is any LPF (Low Pass Filters) that would allow it. Though the M11Pro do have it listed out (frequencies responds and not LPF spectrums) 5-85Khz.....given that they listed an actual number, anything higher than 25Khz will burst your blood vessels and...melt your brain

Thanks everybody for your explanation. It helps me to better understand. But I don't know why, but on m11 pro, I feel sometimes a heavy breath on some very low tracks. I use two IEM that goes to 5Hz fiio fh7 and imr semper. And I miss it on my gears. I plan to replace my daps with fiio m17. I love what fiio makes. I appreciate your comments, thanks.

You can easily analyse the file and see what is the lowest frequencies present in the song. A 5 string double bass or 5 string electric guitar go down to 30Hz. That's the open, thickest string.
The reason why some devices and headphones go down to below 20Hz is to be able to better reproduce frequencies in the sub-bass 40-100Hz, for example. Less roll-off, less distortion, because they are further away from the hardware limit.

You could implement the optical out in the 3.5mm out. Just like the Kann Cube and my Panasonic TV.

Thank you for your reply!

If M17 won't have optical-input, can you please make USB DAC mode compatible with current game consoles? I only wanted optical input because bluetooth is not good for gaming (too much latency even with fastest codecs), and M15 USB DAC mode is not compatible with PS4 unfortunately, so I cannot use it for gaming. If you guys could make M17 USB mode compatible with PS4-PS5, that would be an instant buy from me. (I think game console compatibility would also look good on product brochure and would increase sales, gaming consoles are a big thing nowadays).

Sorry we have not got the report about this and will try to fix it in the future.

Hopefully they will put a full SD in there, SDXC. Is plenty of space.

Don't know why I didn't see that microSD symbol before.

Thanks even though it's a bit disappointing considering storage requirements.

Interesting comments since it REALLY is 2021 right now, 1TB cards are available in both full-sized and micro flavors.

(Up to 100MB/s read) 1TB micro = $170

(Up to 120MB/s read) 1TB micro = $180

(Up to 160MB/s read) 1TB micro = $225

(Up to 100MB/s read) 1TB micro = $230

(Up to 170MB/s read) 1TB full-sized = $270

Is it necessary to pay more for the extra speed or something?

Or maybe some of us might suspect that 1TB micro ones wouldn't be supported?

Would it be realistic to expect that 1.5TB / 2TB full-sized ones will be available in the (near?) future without a hefty price tag, at least initially?

Most likely I'm missing something, I just couldn't figure out why full-sized ones are somehow (still?) a necessity in year 2021.
