Maybe not for IEMs but I wouldn't be so sure if you are driving a fullsized HP in DC mode and also pushing the SoC for DSD256 conversion.

I was today 1.5 - 2h in enhanced mode listening to LCD2 2021 closed back, forgot to engage cooling. M17 got fairly hot but didn't get any warning message.

The truth is that I don't have difficult loads (Clear Mg, Arya, HD8XX etc) so maybe this is why I never needed the fan. (that I hate!)

But I think the original question is about using in battery mode without fully pushing thr amplifier, e.g. using an IEM and realtime DSD256 conversion.

If I listen to Campfire Cascade, in over head mode (no DC), I never use fan. 4 4mm...

How warm does it get? in the pocket or on the desktop?

I am just keeping it on a aluminum stand without turning the fan on, volume 55-65, over head earphone mode. After 1h I can feel it north of warm but not very hot, I would guess 45-50C outside chasis.
