I ordered the F9s today - from Penon Audio. Their site now shows that the F9 is "out of stock" so I am hoping I got my order in in time. I did receive a confirmation email from them so I hope all is well.

Funny thing - I have no idea if I am getting the red version or the black version, don't even remember having to make a choice when I placed the order, and the order confirmation info doesn't specify color, either. It will be a surprise when they get here, but I won't be disappointed either way. Mostly concerned about the sound and performance.

Looking forward to hearing them. Not having the discerning ears of many around here, I think I will enjoy them despite some of the weaknesses noted by others.

@Suneerat - the 1More Triple Driver IEM was on my short list. I have already made my decision, but I would like to hear a comparison of these two IEMs, too. In another thread, someone recommended that I get the 1More Triple instead of the F9. I, of course, had already ordered the F9s.

Turns out that my comment was a bit misleading. It was in my thread requesting recommendations for comfortable IEMs, decent sounding IEMs for use with my smartphone, Post #3: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/recommendations-for-comfortable-iems-with-decent-sound-smartphone-use.859084/#post-13698440
After rereading what buke9 said I realize that he never said anything negative about the F9's, just that in my price range (under $130,) the 1More was what he recommended. He didn't give any reasons for his preference. I remain hopeful that my tin ear will love the F9's!

Just read through your review, Brooko, except for the technical info which is somewhat meaningless to me, I am embarrassed to say - I did skim through that part. at least. Other than the 7 kHz spike/peak, you were pleased with them, especially given their price point. Most of the reviews I have read have been positive, too, and most also mentioned the spike. I may not be able to pick up on it; I hope to find out before too long! Thank you for your review!

No probs Holly. If they are a bit peaky or splashy with cymbals, just drop the closest EQ slider to 7 kHz down by about 5-6 dB. Then you really have a fantastic reference (or close to) IEM. I hope you enjoy them - I definitely do.

I am looking forward to trying them out! Nothing from Penon Audio so no shipping info as yet...

Quick question about the tips for the F9. From what I read, you used Comply tips for the review. Did you try out any of the stock tips that came with the IEMs? If so, were they OK, comfort- and sound-wise, or do you recommend buying after-market tips for them?

Holly

Edit - never mind, you wrote in your review that you aren't able to wear single flange silicone tips because you can't get a good seal with them and apparently that is all the F9s come with.

Yeah - tips are pretty personal. I can use silicone outers with foam inners (like Sony Isolation tips), but most of the time with shallow fitting earphones I need large Comply or large Olives. My big asymmetrical canals

very sorry about the stock issues of F9, it is a little difficult to us to produce enough F9 to our customers, and the MMCX connectors always have problem and that is why we release SE version. if you are not interested to change cable and the inline control features is not necessary I will strong suggest you

buy the F9se, it is available on our aliexpress if your local dealer has not stock.

Hi @JamesFiiO ,

Quick question; if the SE does not have a removeable cable, why is the price the same as the normal F9? Seeing as less is being included with the SE version, should it not be slightly cheaper?

the price will be different based on country. but in U.S, the F9 will be $99.99, and the F9SE will be $89.99.

Just bought the F9 (MMCX) to be used with my Westone Bluetooth cable.

Although this may not be an appropriate comparison; how does the F9 Hybrid compare to the Shure SE846?

Thanks
