Don't really know where to start! I'm not concerned with volume. My main sources are an iPhone 4, iPod nano 6G, and iPad.

I really just want better sound. I remember using the line-out of my old iPod 5.5G in the past and hearing just how much better it sounded. Especially the increased amount of detail.

So I'm interested in running line-out to E5 and use any of the headphones I have.

Would I actually notice an improvement?

E5 will cover up a good bit of the improvement that can be had.
A more transparent amp will do, and will definitely cost more than a Fiio.
I wouldn't know what to recommend though, and it depends on your budget.

What is there in the sub $100 range? I've thought about the PA2V2.

Grab a used T3.
Rummage through the PA2V2 threads for more on that amp.
