is the XMOS firmware upgrade included on the Bluetooth firmware or both need to be individually upgraded? one via Bluetooth and the other via USB from a Windows machine

I'm trying to figure this out myself. It looks like they are two separate upgrades.

I have a few thoughts on this.

1. I couldn't get the Bluetooth online upgrade to work. It just kept telling me I was on the latest firmware version. I had to download the firmware file, copy it to my phone (iPhone 15 Pro) and then do a "Local Upgrade". I'm currently starting at a spinning circle on my phone and continually tapping the phone to keep it awake. I guess it's working? Who knows...
2. It looks like I have to do the XMOS upgrade via a windows machine. I have one, but don't use it often. Booted it up, and I'll try that next.

IMO it's a pretty bad update experience on several levels.
  • Two separate updates, that require different devices, my phone and a windows PC, to even do the update.
  • The update experience in the FiiO Control app is awkward, and I wish it had a progress bar of some sort. And maybe it should keep the phone screen on.

I also recently updated my Qudelix 5k to their latest firmware and it was seamless. All done from the Qudelix app on my iPhone. A MUCH MUCH better experience.

I let this spin for 45 minutes then gave up. I killed the FiiO Control app. Turned the BRT15 off and then on again. Turned Bluetooth off and on again on my iPhone. Then tried the "Local Upgrade" again. This time instead of an infinite spinner I got a screen with "Updating" a blue line, and "Device will restart shortly, please wait."

How long is this upgrade taking for people?

I've had it on this screen for an hour now. The BTR15 is still on and connected to Bluetooth. This is on an iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 17.3.1

I rebooted my iPhone, rebooted the BTR15 and copied the firmware file off of iCloud Drive to a local file on my phone.

I'm not sure which was the problem. While the firmware file was on iCloud drive I did make sure it was downloaded.

When I tried the update again I actually got a progress meter with an estimated time to completion. It worked after maybe 30 minutes.

Though it came up in pairing mode and I had to re-pair it.

Been having problem with BTR15 and MQA. Even after this weeks updates problem still there. Connected to phone via usb (EQ off) when on shuffle and it comes to MQA track it gives loud click and then no sound. Using Fiio app (with MQA addon purchased). Weirdly, app does not let me skip to next track..When i try it just crashes the app (Fiio app is no longer working) and I have to close and reopen app and unplug and replug usb.

Have contacted Fiio via their forum and email but no luck. Thing is useless to me as is.....

I haven't tried MQA, but after doing the update I do have a few things working that were not working before.

For example before the update if I tried to apply any custom EQ it would put the BTR15 into some weird dev mode, and make everything super quiet when using it as a USB-C dongle. That seems to be fixed.

I can now adjust EQ and have it change in real time. But sometimes it gets into a state where it starts introducing a ton of noise, like maybe it's clipping. I'm not sure what's wrong, but I don't want to sink more time into this.

I think the BTR15 firmware and FiiO Control App need several more revisions before they are usable if you want to do EQ, which was the whole reason I bought it.

I can just use my Qudelix 5k, which just works... or the FiiO KA11 without EQ.

Dear friend,

The BTR15 uses independent USB chip and Bluetooth chip, not 2-in-1. Therefore you would need to two firmwares for BTR15 separately. :sunflower:

Best regards

What does the newly introduced "bypass mode" under the EQ section actually does?
Dear friend,

When swtiching EQ from Bypass to other EQ, the music will not stop.
When switching EQ from OFF to other EQ, the music will stop.
When playing MQA or DSD files, the EQ option need to be switched to OFF.

Best regards

i searched the thread and found some general information regarding soundquality between the BTR15 and BTR7 and it is said, that the BTR7 is generally better. Which makes sense for almost double the price.
However to me the most important is soundstage depth and layering as my current Qudelix 5k doesnt provide any depth at all. Usually a holographic 3d soundstage is rare with an THX amp too and it is one of the weeknesses of this technology in general at least compared to other amps, most of all class A. Hence it would be very informative to know what the BTR7 does compared to the non THX BTR15 output stage in this regard.
So i would much appreciate, if an owner of both could compare which one provides a deeper soundstage and better layering? I dont care for width, details and what not. Just soundstage depth and layering. Thank you in advance!
