[FiiO BTR15/BTR5 2021/BTR5]Bluetooth DAC and Headphone Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

@FiiO , hi,

Please, tell us, is it true:

- dual DAC mode is pointless if 3.5 output is in use as the only one
- high/low gain modes result in the same output impedance

?
Dear friend,

1. The dual DAC mode only works for PO output.
2. Output Impedance
PO<1.0Ω (32Ω loaded)
BAL<2.0Ω (32Ω loaded)
Gain mode does not affect this value.

Best regards

As explained my problem relates to choosing sources and continuity. when it feels like reconnecting to "the other device" it will stop playing the current source. And there seems to be no way of telling it to play from the second source other than re-pairing.
Dear friend,

Can't the current source re-pairing automatically after a while? We will also report to the engineer to check whether they could improve about that.

Best regards

Dear Fiio,

I have a problem when connecting the BTR15 with AAC codec that is not available and the device ends up connecting with SBC, although in the control app the AAC codec is enabled.
I have tried it with 2 different smartphones (with android system) and the problem is there with both, which makes me think there's a software bug in the device.

Greetings & Thanks.
Dear friend,

Is AAC Bluetooth codec not supported by your mobile phone? I tested with my mobile phone but did not reproduce the problem. And if you have the iOS device, you could connect for check.

Yes, my mobile supports AAC, it's a POCO X3 PRO. I don't have this problem with BTR5 2021 and BTR7. I've tried everything, reboot, reset, wipe data and nothing. The problem is there.

I spent a whole day with the primary source (phone) in silence, and the secondary (laptop) playing, and no sound came out at all.

If I'm playing (and carrying) from the phone and move away from the laptop for a while, and then come near the laptop, the BTR15 will pause the primary source and switch to "connecting" for gods know how long until it succeeds or gives up. In the meantime time the phone (Android 14) stops seeing the BTR15 so one can't manually resume playing either.

The only way to break this painful experience is hold the multi-function button until it goes into pairing mode, and whoever connects first wins the right to be listened.

It's HORRIBLE.

what is the best digital filter for : micro details, crisp clean airy good treble extension, soundstage spacious ?
I guess, it is individual and depends on your ears. If you are able to select, then Ok. If not - why to bother?

As for me, I don't hear difference which I would confirm with blind ABX testing. But I'm able (as everybody, I guess) to self-hypnotize to prefer one of alternative.

DAC converts digital PCM data coming either from USB or BT to analog sound, then the AMP makes that analog sound louder

Sorry about the dumb question, but if I use the BTR5 via Bluetooth, it will use just the AMP, not the DAC? This is for my smartphone (Android)

Actually that's an interesting question. The Qualcomm BT chip does actually contain its' own DAC but for the BTR5 the amp is integrated with the ESS921x chip so my guess is that the ESS DAC is used when listening to bluetooth. It would seem to be needed for balanced output as well.

Someone more knowledgable than me may be able to clarify.

The SQ of this BTR5 2020 is simpley outstanding. I'm using balanced, there's a noticeable difference for 3.5mm. I hear thru an Antelope Audio Zen Tour Audio Interface on my home-studio, one of the greatest DACs and Clocking on the market ($1700) and when I went out with the FiiO, man, was I surprised! Sounds really really good. For the SQ this delivers, this is a bargain. It's no Chord Mojo, let's be honest, but still rocks (hard).

Is there anyone that have listen to the 2020 and 2021? Did you notice any difference in SQ?

I believe it uses the BTR5 DAC, which is probably a better DAC anyway. I don't remember if I tried comparing the sound. Plus, it would be hard to judge because of the significant power output difference.

(Using a translator)

Has anyone else experienced issues when watching youtube videos using the BTR15?
Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra - Bluetooth LDAC - Fiio BTR15 - 3.5mm iem
After playing the video, the sound comes after 1-2 seconds, but I can't hear the first 1-2 seconds of the video.
I believe this is an issue with the buffer, but I couldn't find any relevant menu in the fiio app, or in the btr15 device settings.
Has anyone solved a similar problem?
