As far as I know, first batch will be 2000 units. Then more. It is not a limited edition unit.
That's good news - but I assume the price point attracts a wider customer base too, maybe....but it appears it is more accessible. The fan stand though, I don't know. My new EVO has the standard cable lenght - I don't know how much cable lenght I have to play with and spare if that unit needs to go on a fan....once in a while my Microsoft Surface Pro computer gets very hot, I put it in the my wonderful wine fridge for a bit, cools down immediately, as my fridge is set to 46F....it gets ventilated with wonderful cold crisp air. Maybe I can avoid using the fan....we shall see...

You are saying that you are going to buy a FRIDGE to store the M17 inside while you are listening to music ? Possibly building a battery packs of 18650 to feed it 15V PSU ?

hehe....the fridge is already in place - commercial quality too :).....a 15min dip into crisp air, should be as good as an hour on the fan or so I hope....

Good to hear its not limited edition. 2000 initially is probably OK so possibly all will get one on the first run. Again though... it's probably a nail biter on midnight to get one just in case of an overwhelming ordering rush. At $1,700+ though its quite an outlay for most DAP users so units may be more freely available. He says...🤔 🙄 🤣

I don't think you would need to cool it down if you aren't really pushing it with a hard to drive HP and high volume. It is anyway supposed to work as a portable without full power.

I think it’s automatic, many of us look at it as a huge portable dap when in fact as the thread states, it’s a desktop unit. As a portable it reminds me of olden days with ancient cell phones (the first ones available), pretty sure everyone remembers the huge portable phones of yesteryears characterized in comedy based movies.

Seriously though, the specs look great, let’s see how this power will get dissipated with just its own cooling system. Hoping Fiio makes it available at a decent price, specially since too many manufacturers either willingly or not shot up their stocked items to go along with our over heated inflation.

I am curious about what direction they’ll take on the true portable ones. I think we are reaching the limit of plethora of features a dap can take, partly due to Android based op systems. Looking into going back to the less is more (and hopefully smaller true portables) with TXH driven amps and double dacs instead of quad. We seem to equate number of dacs with higher hi-if quality.

I think it's interesting people will point out the size of the fiio in an age where it is normal to see people carry around game consoles and laptops, I see this player as more than portable and a hifi hobby treat

Other than extensive audio connectors, the #FiiO Desktop Portable Music Player M17# also features a DC input port, and is equipped with two sets of power supply systems- battery and DC power supply. The battery provides convenient use scenarios, unlike DC power supply which will be limited in many cases. While under DC power supply, the power supply voltage of the internal analog circuit is 35% higher than that of the battery, and the battery will not work at this time. This helps to protect the battery even for long-term use.

Ha!, well that is telling :)

My M15 does get hot if I run "Over-ear Headphone" mode + Gain=H + "All-to-DSD", and load up a high impedance headphone (250/600) or Planar, but not so hot I'd be concerned. I wonder how much hotter the M17 can get with various modes in combination?

The M15 has a Glass back like the M17, but the M15 FiiO (DD?) leather case has 2 large thick Metal inserts that help air-heat exchange and to cool off the M15, I haven't noticed if the M17 leather case has those Metal Inserts...
What is the "Heat Sink"? I haven't seen a "Heat Sink" at all, the Fan Stand is too lightly made to be a "Heat Sink".

Also, the M17 is not a "Desktop Computer", unless FiiO are considering using Samsung's Dex "Desktop", but IDK if that will even work on a non-Samsung Android device. Is there an Android Desktop mode in Android 10? The M17 uses a Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform CPU, not a "Desktop Computer" CPU.

"Two optional Wind Speeds", what I heard was very very loud in the video recording I saw with the Fan in the 2 speeds at high speed. There are quieter fan designs - the blade cut/angle balance for moving air vs noise needs careful design considerations - perhaps FiiO can work on that some more to reduce the noise? I understand the higher the RPM the more air moved, but there needs to be a dBa Limit on the noise - I think 40dBa is normal for non-intrusive noise. Adding a mid-speed or reducing the "high speed" RPM to 40dBa would help.

If the Fan Bracket was designed for the M17 then the Fan area should also flow across the M17's 2 side air vents, not only blow over the top of the M17. Also if the Fan Stand was designed for the M17 the M17 should sit lower on the stand - there is too much "lift/height" for the M17+Fan weight. The Fan Stand ledge where the M17 rests should be half again lower down toward the table. The M17 sitting on the Fan stand with the M17 high to reach the heavy fan box looks way too top heavy, too high off the table.

I would have expected the fan to be placed lower in the middle of the stand, with the Fan's weight lower slung on the Fan Stand, with the M17 sitting lower on the Fan Stand as well.

Maybe when I see my M17 siting on the Fan Stand in person, FiiO's design will all make more sense to me. :)

Highly-capable audio performances will surely cause large power consumption. To effectively avoid the heating issue, the #FiiO Desktop Portable Music Player M17# takes a lot of measures by using the “H” style heat dissipation and VC (Vapor Chamber) technology. The whole shell of the M17 was hollowed out by an aluminium alloy plate, weighting about 151g with high heat capacity to better dissipate the heat internally. We even designed a fan for the M17 for faster heat dissipation.

This is a Google translation, so I wouldn't take it literally.

HiFi Bluetooth is more than just fast. The upgraded #High Fidelity Bluetooth Transceiver BTA30 Pro# is a rarely-seen device on the market which not only supports LDAC transmission and reception, but also allows LDAC transmission under USB in and SPDIF in modes. Thanks to the upgraded XMOS decoding, the BTA30 Pro supports 384kHz/32bit and DSD256. The all-new high-performance ES9038Q2M DAC is more excellent than the last generation, leading to an easy and smooth connection in just one step.
