Just got the Spiral Dot tips I ordered last week (paid handsomely for expedited shipping) and am trying them out now- went for a walk and am now sitting trying to get a handle on them. I had been using the Radio Shack silicons and they gave big bass/timbre with my balanced Moon Audio cable. Very good mids and very nice trebles- maybe a little hidden in the timbre but there if I listened for it. The Spirals have less bass (I think it's a matter of tip width and depth (well, that sounded dirty) as I think the Radio Shacks are a bit longer but the hole is a bit smaller. (Gasp, I feel like I'm writing women's bodice-ripper fiction).
The Spirals have much better mid-uppers and trebles. Seem to have a bit more clarity as well. Walking, the bass/timbre seems a bit light (not bad, just less), but sitting it seems good. It may have to do with seal. I'm gonna keep on listening and see how it goes. So far though the tradeoff is good.

Why are people buying $200 cables for a $250 IEM? I fail to understand that logic.

I don't think you need to understand the logic? Its their choice, does it bother you?

I just find it intriguing why someone would simply come into a thread and question someone's personal purchase. (on a headphone site of all places)
One must be really bothered to come and begin poking around on someones elses individual decision.

I am not talking about anyone specifically. I am just questioning the logic. If you assume that I am poking around on your decision, then that's your assumption.
Cables provide an incremental upgrade for an IEM or headphone. In this case the cables cost almost as much as the IEM. Spending that same amount of money would get a better IEM that does not require the upgraded cable to improve the sound. In fact, the cable may not need to be upgraded to give a superb sound.
If someone was buying, say, a pair of HD800 and spending extra to upgrade the cables, that incremental improvement will likely make them much happier. There would be little necessity to jump to another set of headphones if they are already buying the best.

I didn't purchase any cable? As for the rest, I've read it 1000 times before friend.
What matters is, you don't need to try and save us from the holy grail of your own personal beliefs.

I am not having this discussion.
You are acting like a child crossing out my post.
Forums are full of personal beliefs. But of course, you obviously speak for everyone here.
I am entitled to mine as you are entitled to yours.

Someone once said "Best is the enemy of good"... But in this hobby, the best can always be bettered. Bring on the mods and cables

BTW, The A83 - Alien does wonders with Psybient and other lounge electronica. I am stunned. The balance is very very nice. K&D session sounds awesome with them!
