Fatal flaw with Audeze EL-8 ???

Jun 1, 2016 at 5:41 PM Post #91 of 138
There have been some custom cable in the EL-8 Thread I believe. Can't remember who makes them but it seems like the connectors are out there.

We build cables for Audeze EL-8, along with the rest of their lineup (including Sine).

New on here. I got a pair of Audeze el-8 and the cables suck. I even got a brand new replacement from Audeze and they were cutting out within 1 week. It's the part that connects to my iPhone. If I press it down in a certain way then they work. So the issue is at the base. Any suggestions?? I'm tired of this crap. My headphones are just sitting untouched without use now.

Sorry to hear that. PM us if you like us to provide some suggestions.

I've had zero problems with either the old or new version of the cable. Given the very few posts here, I suspect most owners have no issues.

If two cables are not making a good connection with the OPs phone, it's likely the phone or phone case has the issue, not the connector. If there was a systemic problem with the cable, there would be far more reports on this thread.

Clear the dust out of your headphone port on your iphone.

It's not that simple lol. It has nothing to do with the headphone port on my iPhone because this happens not only on my iPhone but my amp and my laptop without the amp. The first one broke which I got with my el8 from razor dog, I called razor dog and they had Audeze send me a brand new cable directly from Audeze, that broke within a week. When I say broke I just mean that the sound frequencies and cutting out on left side depending on how I "bent" the wire coming straight out of the iPhone or laptop. So I recently contacted Audeze and they were nice enough to ship a new one out which I will get soon. But I said "hey listen I love your actually headphones but the cables are really bad and I said I don't want to keep getting cables even if they are free I just want these amazing headphones to be functional. I've been contacted on this forum from all these third party vendors but $160 and up for cables?!? Are you serious? I would never drop that kind of dough. I am not an audiophile by any means and new to high end headphones so I don't know much about DIY or materials etc. I mainly use these headphones to produce music. Dopamine - Single by Rubix

That iTunes track was mixed down and mastered using Audeze and it sounds great and couldn't have had a better mixdown without it. Audeze also told me that they will send me a list of their 3rd party cable providers that won't be that expensive. On Audeze's end they are doing everything in their power to ensure my satisfaction. But in the meantime I'm using a pair of crazy headphones and life just isn't the same lol. Anyway everyone has been real helpful on here and I will give you guys an update. Also I want to end this on a high note to anyone thinking about purchasing Audeze products that yeah 2 cables went bad for me the first one being pre-owned but I still stand by their product. These are the most comfortable headphones El-8, sound quality is amazing in its neutrality and clearness. It also looks amazing with its wood-like appearance. I have the open back El-8 which are essential if you are using these to produce, and mixdown your track. I would place these headphones as hybrid between audiophile headphones and Monitoring headphones.

Only EL-8

Does the cable only work with EL-8s or can I connect it to other headphones?

Connectors only work with EL-8s since they are proprietary.

iamrubix - can you PM us your serial number ? will followup on your issue.

Dear Audeze, you guys have been very nice by sending me my second cable. BUT it's been maybe less than 2 weeks since I got it and it just happened again. The little flimsy part that connects to my headphone jack is again losing its connection. Do you know how frustrating this is. As we have exhausted all options please send me a list of third party cable manufacturers that won't cost me an arm and a leg. I'm also in the NYC area so if you know any wire repair places here let me know.

I want to hear from everybody else now. Am I maybe the one to blame for this incident? I use this device mobile so since the cable is very long I wrap it once around my head

Me too.  First the left wasn't working then the right wasn't working and the left was working sometimes. I'd like to get mine fixed. Since this, apparently this is a system wide problem, I wonder if there's someone who repairs them with a little extra something to make them solid.
