From what I'm reading on the forum, I'm dramatically limiting myself if I only look for In-Ear phones with a "short cord"
 
Forgetting about that is leading me towards the Shure SE215
 
but as I have a BT remote clipped to my collar  - What would be the best way to deal with the excess cable?

you could use a cable management system like the smartwrap cord winder but i would just re-terminate the cord to the length you want it. I did that with some shure's to be able to use them with the accessories from their last generation of earphones. you could also pick any type of headphone jack you want to match your bt remote.

yeah I think re-teminate the cord is the way to go and use the long cable that came with my old SE115's
