In their Twitter they also showed off a couple heads, I think they plan to make a video about which one is closest to human hearing and use that as their benchmark device.
I missed that tweet too… was it in the LTT main account?

Actually interested in getting this to accompany my Z1R now, how does this compare to Andromeda and IER M9?

Are the stock tips required for the tuning of the sound? I can't use standard spherical shaped silicones they make my canals itchy and sore but the beyerdynamic tips are perfect.
It's both YES and NO. I don't think you can get the true answer directly from any sennheiser representative, of course they will tell you their stock ear tips are not required.
But once you try enough 3rd party ear tips on the IEM, you'll realise none other than the stock ear tips give the same sound.

What's really change the sound here is not the ear tips. It's that little piece of black foam inside the tube of the stock ear tips doing the job here.
It doesn't matter what ear tips you use as long as the tube size is the same as stock, the black foam is inside and fully cover the tube it will sound the same, but there is no way to fix a piece of black foam inside the tube of any 3rd party ear tips, you'll need special glue for silicone otherwise it just won't stick.

So the stock ear tips is the only answer, you have no choice if you want the exact same sound of the stock ear tips.
Use the stock memory foam ear tips, it is a little bit bigger than the silicone ear tips of the same size.

Fun fact: the standard Eartips have an effect on the sound but it isnt intentional.
So yes the stock tips have their own sound (like any eartip has) but it isnt like Sennheiser planned it this way. The foam is basically only intended there to keep dirt away from the nozzle.

The foam eartips offer a much better seal which is slightly beneficial to the bass.
Then both the silicone and foam stock eartips have a unique shape and diameter so I believe (speculate) that the final tuning was done with them.
Changing to a different diameter, shape, height will slightly affect the sound signature.
