Can you explain how the driver system differs between the wireless and wired options that all employ the same basic driver packaging/system? How long before we see IE600/IE900 levels of performance in the TWS segment?

Great question. While there is shared DNA with TWS and the wired audiophile earphones, they are not repackaged versions of the same guts. This post explains it with my favorite analogy thus far.

When it comes to wireless audio performance good enough for critical listening, there are four key considerations: size, battery life, connectivity, and sound quality. As battery technology progresses, you can either shrink the battery (ideal) to maintain or improve operating time, or shape it (far less than ideal - $$$$$$$$$) to fit in a housing that consumers are willing to live with, ergonomically speaking (size/weight/shape). Sound quality could easily direct this entire equation if size and battery life were not a concern. Higher performance connectivity hardware and soft/firm protocols exist but are niche. How long depends on what customers are willing to accept en masse, so, tough to put a timeline on any of it.

For those in a hurry, the IE600 is in stock on Amazon JP right now. (+ ~26USD shipping to the US - the total is roughly the same as the HiFiGo).

A small tip, you can change the language on amazon JP to English and it becomes way easier to navigate.

Just a heads-up that Amazon.jp restocked a few units. Since HiFiGo jacked up the price from $799 to $899, it's also a bit cheaper to order via Amazon.jp now (~$750 +tax).

Since these have already been released in China, I'd love to get a pair. But I can't even get vegetables delivered now, let alone hi-fi gear!

Sending good vibes your way and hoping the situation improves 🙏

I wonder if there are or will be any aftermarket makers for silicon eartips? The medium factory ones are a touch too big for my ears and they cause them to get sore after prolonged listening sessions while the small ones don't provide a proper ear seal and sound terrible. I use medium SpinFits for my Shure SE846s and their size feels like they're between the OEM small and medium and feel much more comfortable when I wear them for a long time.

The original tips made my ears sore pretty much from the beginning. I only could resist them if i put them in and didn’t remove them again for the rest of my session.

I replaced them with the Beyerdynamic Xelento Tips. You can order the “EDT SERVICE KIT XELENTO
“ from their page.

This includes every tip size and they are soft and seal well for me. They are oval in shape tho and you have to orient them in a certain way to make them work. The Xelentos let me listen for hours at a time and I can remove them and stick them in as often as I please, without pain. Keep in mind that you loose the “ear wax filter” from the stock tips.

These are my go-to tips and they work with the 2-position nozzle of the IE 900. They are copies of Sony hybrid tips. Of course the genuine Sony tips will also work if you can find them.

I am interested to know from anyone that owns these or the ie300/ie900 have used both the 3.5 unbalanced & the 4.4 balance cables do they actually make a difference ?
🙋‍♂️

Full disclosure I am with the house but have had the opportunity to listen with the 4.4 Bal and 3.5 Single ended on both now (and IE 600), and enjoy it very much. It's not my full-time configuration for these earphones as I most often pair with a SE source (Dragonfly Red), but appreciate the balanced option's extra nudge of depth and nuance. I do so much switching between Sennheiser headphones that 3.5 is my common denominator, but when the occasion calls, 4.4 rocks. For me, the analogy that comes to mind is that of taking the 1st sip of a freshly opened ice cold Pepsi (or beer or bite from a bag of chips or spoonful of ice cream, etc) vs the 2nd sip.

By the time you get to the balanced vs unbalanced part of the equation, you've hopefully managed other variables like source and sample rate/bit depth, etc, as you're looking to have a more critical look backwards into the audio tunnel. The sum of all of those other improvements makes going balanced more enjoyable and rewarding. Just my 0.02 cryptos.

It looks like IE900 went up in price. How much will be IE600 when they are released in US?
