20min with ES-R10
Not the same earpads.
It is heavier but still light.
Treble energy is missing, more warmth. Reminds me of a deteriorated OG-R10 melted foam ring.
Cable is shorter. 6 feet.
Opening the earpads to put on ears is the same touch. Feels like you will snap it :)
Similar hollow sound

30min with ES-R10
Bass is the same. Weak. But great depth
Speaking on bass? The ES-OMEGA has amazing bass for a estats! Very happy here.

Also, the gap, the unpolish edge is nothing. No need to bother with that.

I'm tempted to buy the ES estat. I look forward to more impressions of both :L3000:

The R10 is great, but the omega is delicious 😋 I can't stop going back and forth with these two.

The ES-Omega about 50-60% to the OG. Not any way the same sadly. Similar to MK1 and 009S version.
The original has treble energy, intense and smooth at the same time with a massive soundstage.

It has a flavor of it own. The ES-Omega is not a 009, Thank Zeus!

Alright back to the R10!!! :p

Guess, I be in headphone nirvana for a bit.
Last thoughts, the ES-R10 is very good. It dose justice to the OG.

If you are a Sony R10 historian, than you will understand this. These sounds more like bass heavy versions. Sadly its not the best version called bass light, unit# 1 to 200.

I have the Benchmark, getting the absolute cleanest sound possible.
The ES-R10 is a colour headphone. It is not neutral.

After loaning my pair of ES-R10 away I felt the treble increased. Not sure if it’s imaginary…

Please update if you find any improvements after burn in. (I’m a non burn in believer)

Thanks for your comparisons and pictures @protoss

You are not imagining things. I'm close to reaching 100 hours of burn in on mine with the goal of reaching 200 hours. The sound is gaining a tiny bit more clarity with microdetails and treble is becoming more emphasized but also only by a small amount.

ES-R10 comparison to MDR-R10

ES-R10
1. Heavier by 100g or less.
2. Not as comfy as OG. But retains that pillow like feeling that gives its that legendary comfy feeling. Could wear these forever like the OG.
3. Cable is 6.5 feet compare to OG 10 feet cable.
4. Treble is missing. But as other are stating maybe after usage it might pop up. This is not a con against the ES-R10.
5. Earpads are not the same. The OG is lamb skin. ES-R10 says its lamb leather. The foam inside might be different. https://vesperaudio.com/earpads - This looks more OG. No need to replace the ES-R10 earpads. Its great. Just not the exact same. Nothing is wrong with it!
6. Wood cups are identical. Feeling and looks.
7. Cables are not the same.
8. headband strap is similar. Yokes similar.
9. The OG is a fragile, bulky, light weight headphone. The ES-R10 is similar. A tad heavier. Keep saying that but its not heavy :)
10. Both headphones are on-ear.
11. Both has the euphoric signature.
12. Both has the romantic signature.
13. Detail is more pronounce on the OG
14. Both are realistic. The OG a tad more.
15. ES-R10 has no treble spikes.
16. No distortion found on the ES-R10
17. ES-R10 works well with bad recording and excels with flac and 24bit files.
18. On classical music, the treble is subdue but replace it with a gentle romantic sound.

After 5hrs of listening, the ES-R10 is a winner!

ES-R10
My first impressions are most of the time my final impressions :)

Bass Extension 7
Bass Impact 5
Bass Quality 6.5
Mids Quality 9
Highs Quality 7.5
Detail 7
Comfort 9
Durability 7
Value 10

Overall: 9/10

The OG Value deserves close to a 1.
So think about it :)

the L5000

They are not the same at the all. Complete opposite. The legendary L5000 is a treble headphone. Excels at female vocals. A specialist headphone. ES-R10 is a romantic headphone. Comparing them you can say the Es-R10 is veil.

Thinking about it, the Es-R10 can rival the L3000. Very similar. The bass on the L3000 is a tad better.

The ES-R10 should not be compare to Audio Techinca. Its after something far more godly-er, called the Sony MDR R10 :p

I wrote a few things on AT-L3000/5000 :L3000:

Nice review and a strong endorsement. Hard for me to resist the buy button now. I didn’t realize that the R10 is an on-ear headphone. My experience with on-ear has been with Grados and I didn’t find them particularly comfortable. That is my only hesitancy. Does the cavity of the EarPads not fit most of your outer ear?

I don't really like on ears either, but these don't bother me at all. It's the most comfortable headphone I have tried, it stayed on my head for 8 hours each day the first 3 days after receiving them. I would categorize them as on-ears at all, they feel more like a pillow on your ears, so if you can sleep on the side with a regular pillow you should not have any issues with comfort.

Its not your traditional onear headphone. Its literally like a soft pillow covering all your ears and outside regions with a small cutout for sound.

Fun fact: Sony R10 is the most comfortable headphone on planet earth. More comfortable than HD800, HE90, STAXs, Hifiman stuff, you name it...

Ninja'ed you! 😂

But yeah, nothing like a traditional on-ear headphone
