Erzetich Charybdis

I was wondering if there are also separate pads available for the Erzetich Charybdis with an audible improvement.
not that the current pads are bad, but an adjustment by, for example, curved pads might really improve the signal flow
There are, not curved pads but Velours and Leather (standard)

The pads used in Charybdis are 110mm diameter (I asked the mfr). That means any number of aftermarket pads can be used. However, pad rolling outside the manufacturer's product set is risky ... those of us who pad roll much find this out the hard way. The farther one diverges (in choice of aftermarket pads) from the mfr's stock pad design, the more potential for sonic chaos there is.

The stock pads appear to be non-perforated, non-angled, and relatively deep (I'm guessing ~1 1/8" to 1 1/4" deep). So if I owned this headphone and was trying to pad roll it, I'd probably start with something like:
  • Brainwavz XL suedes, just to see if a different pad material made a positive change
  • One of Dekoni's angled sheepskin pads, just to see if even a slight degree of angling helps or hurts the sound
  • One of Dekoni's angled velour pads, dimensions of which are identical to the angled sheepskins (I bought a pair of these for my Caldera. They're physically beautiful, well made pads):
  • Then getting more adventurous, I'd try the Caldera Lambskin Thicks--adventurous because these are perforated:
(the 2nd listed pad option would probably be the what I tried first w/the Charybdis)

One of the unknowns here concerns the interior foam. This can have quite an effect on sound, too, but I have no idea how any of the pads linked above compare to the foam in the Charybdis' stock pads.

I tried the Charybdis with a Viva tube amp at a show and was impressed by it. One of the best TOTL headphone, arguably better than the Susvara and many others. Spacious sound, all the frequencies are well done and indeed with a good bass.

Without the price factor I would get one in a blink.
Possibly the best Planar going around at the moment.

I love the Charybdis but find it tough to use with a powerful amp because it is so efficient so I tend to use it with the chord dave direct...on a relative basis in the world of TOTL HP's it is a veritable bargain

Could you please share what you mean by 'tough to use with a powerful amp'? Sound doesn't feel right with more powerful amps? I recently upgraded from wooaudio wa8 portable setup to a desktop setup of Weiss dac plus cayin ha300 (with elrog tubes), and I felt the headphones scaled beautifully with this setup. Blaz himself sells a very powerful amp (Scylla) as his recommendation for Charybdis.

I have a chord dave/blu2 and feliks envy...as I said the Charybdis is incredibly efficient and thus I have to use it on low gain otherwise it is simply too powerful for the HP..the dave works quite well by itself

Enjoying them a lot on MDave.

to my ears the envy requires low gain which to me kind of negates the positives of the envy...using it on low gain I still had to be at -30 on the dave volume....with the dave it just seems not better but more comfortable to use

I'm afraid I don't follow.
Is your only positive more power/volume?

What about the tube flavor?

my point is the envy to my ears sounds better on the mid or high gain and with the charybdis I can only use it on low gain
