Hi Ultimaters
Another Matt from Melbourne
I officially joined the club by getting delivery of junior UltimatE yesterday. It's been a pleasant journey reading through the forums and gathering knowledge and courage to get into tubes . My one is an exact replica of @UntilThen Matt's UltimatE- thanks Matt i followed all your threads and couldnt resist . Eric offered me with some rca arsenals to start with rca 6wb4,6y6g and 12av7. So hoping do some rolling adventures in future , so over and out ,as i need more listening to do my initial impression was " addictive and bloody quite for my ZMF caldera / utopia"

Hi Matt, glad it has been a good initial experience for you with Ultimate. Yours is an exact replicate of my previous Ultimate, which is now with @Leicachamp.
You’ve great headphones to go with Ultimate. Will definitely wait to hear further impressions from you when you’re ready.
Sending you all a picture of Lake Toba. I’m on a boat now travelling across it. This holiday has been too much fun. Everyday is something new. I didn’t have time to miss my head-fi gear.

Have fun my friend!! You have work waiting for you when you're back...
(I am cheating a little bit... internals still not completed, but will be done long before you're back...)

Amazing !!!
I had to look at it for several minutes. Black is nice ! The Bakelite sockets fits it.
It’s 30c here. Same as Singapore. I’m in t-shirts and shorts.
Last night singing on stage was outrageous. A lady was singing Cotton Fields by CCR and the crowd dance like maniacs.
On the boat, the Pretenders entertained us. I have live music !

@UntilThen I'm glad you're having fun, I hope you continue to do so.
@nmat79 welcome and congratulations on the beauty.
I hope you will love it and enjoy it for a long time.
About the Ultigreg there is 50/50 news.take it with a grain of salt,as these are just my impressions.
I found a 12 At7 Thomson by chance.
Currently running Ge 6550A in the output, 12At7 Sylvania Jhs and 6bw4 Sylvania.
The Mundorf capacitor has a life of just under 200 hours and the Russian 70 hours.
I'm having a bit of a hard time with the Russian one, somehow it sounds good and somehow not.
It's relatively warm in terms of the signature.it resolves the mid and high frequencies nicely.the bass is punchier than the Mundorf but not quite as accurate as the Mundorf.
I wish the Mundorf had more punch like the Russian.
The Russian makes a better impression on the speakers than on the headphones.
The Mundorf, on the other hand, is a bit more neutral but still warm, which is good for the Atrium.
With the Russian it is sometimes too much warmth and bloated.
I wish the Mundorf had the resolution of the Russian in the mid and high frequencies.
Because with the Mundorf it sounds a bit more distant in the overall image.
On the other hand, I find it good on the speakers.
You also have to play well with tubes, the Mundorf still tolerates a warm couple.
Unfortunately not with the Russian, where I think you have to be more neutral.
I'm still trying to find that out.
The Gec KT66s do well on the Mundorf, the Russian is thicker.
I have to say that the headphones are also a draught horse.
Because the Auteur Og with the Russian and Mundorf caps with warm tubes harmonise quite well with each other due to its neutral tuning, there is enough juice in all areas where it is needed.
The Atrium is tuned rather warmer and at some point it bites.
And also a little more difficult to tune.
At least those are my impressions that I have gathered but are not yet fixed since I got the Ultigreg.
Since I'm a little over halfway through the burn in with the Mundorf condenser.
The Russian one still needs a bit.
What I can roughly hear is that the Russian one is good for more neutral headphones like Auteur Og,Hd800 certainly also various planars from Audeze,Dan Clark audio.
The Mundorf is good for warmer headphones like Atrium and so on.
Funnily enough, the Verite closed I borrowed was very good on both.
My first rough assessment would be Mundorf >>> Warm tube
And russchische >>> more neutral tube to go for.
On the whole there is nothing bad to say about the Ultigreg, it works great, no problems, I am still satisfied with it and very happy.
I still have to try a bit with cables.
I still have a 4 pin XLR silver cable where the Ultigreg responded very well.
There was more resolution and fine detail than with the copper cable on the Atrium.
But the copper is a bit fuller and more forgiving and smooth.
The Ultimate is a real Swiss Army knife because you can lift it directly with small things if you know what you are looking for.
It starts with the cables you use in the chain, silver or copper, good or bad quality.
The Ultimate reacts very well to this, which is something I have never experienced before.
