Hello,
Oooh yes, my drawer needs to be tidied up again.
Here is a picture of the tube where I made a secret.
First of all, it's an EL34 that hums a bit without music when you turn up the pot, but more in the high volume region.
It is otherwise quiet in the position where I listen to my music and the potentiometer doesn't go there either.
The setup is 12at7 Brimar Yellow T which already has 60h on it.
Ez 80 Valvo also 60h, and the secret tube is the EL 34 Sophia Electric.
About the EL34 Sophia Electric, with the Mundorf condenser it is magic. (More on this in a moment)
With the Russian condenser it is a little warmer and thicker, but the Russian cap doesn't have many hours on it yet.
Just 46h while the Mundorf has 154h.
So half time for the Mundorf.
The first 150 hours were always a bit of a rollercoaster ride.
I expect it to do that for a while and then stabilise.
There were good hours with the Mundorf and then there were less good ones.
So patience is called for.
The Ultigreg has its 200 hours behind it, so not much will happen.
So now to Sophia Electric:
Honestly, I always refused to pay the price for such a new pair.
By chance I found them on Headfi for a steal of a price.
Grade A with 100-120 hrs on them so burnt in and NIB you can say.
With the Mundorf she has a very solid and firm bass on the atrium, quite wide and deep going stage, while vocals are on the intimate side.
Has a good midrange and extended treble where not annoying.Very pleasant.
The secondary acoustics are also well audible and cleanly separated in the separation and come across very well.
For a new stock tube I am amazed at how good it is.
Absolute go if you can find it used and in good condition with low hours.
For the new price Sophia has divided the tubes into 3 grades with different prices and guarantees.
You have to decide for yourself.
Grade A with 1 year warranty unit price 165 us$,then it becomes cheaper.
It is always difficult to pay such a price if you don't know it, but you have my recommendation here. It is a good tube.
It is a pity that the 6SN7 has been out of production for a long time and the 6SL7 is sold out.
They would also be interesting as driver tubes.
Apart from that, they also offer 12Au/Ax7, which is not necessarily bad.
They would still be interesting and are also cheap.
12Ax7 could be an insider tip for replacing the overpriced Telefunken 803S.

ECC808 is another alternative that needs an adapter. You can read up on them here:12Ax7 could be an insider tip for replacing the overpriced Telefunken 803S.

Telefunken made these too. I have three of them so I know
So far my favourite tube has been the imposing EL39 however it’s baby sister the EL81 is as musical as the larger tube, and at $30 a pair are an absolute bargain compared to the $200 a pair EL39 but they look so tiny, they are also dead quiet.

I need to buy a pair and adapters. Had serious interference issues in the past with top cap tubes, but would love to try again...So far my favourite tube has been the imposing EL39 however it’s baby sister the EL81 is as musical as the larger tube, and at $30 a pair are an absolute bargain compared to the $200 a pair EL39 but they look so tiny, they are also dead quiet.

Hello Ultimaters
Looks like you are all having fun. Nick, those are gorgeous EL39 tubes.
Unfortunately I am having so much fun here, I am extending my holidays and will be back only on the 31st August.
By then, Eric told me that there will be 3 Super Ultimates for me to get my hands on.
Below is a picture of Zachi’s Super Black Ultimate in progress. Looking good !
