Dont worry about too much gain using 12ax7. My fav is now Tele Ecc81!!! Gives such a direct sound.

As long as you have a digital volume on your player its all good. Using a Lumin Server and leaving the Ultimate around 9-10 oclock

I also like these Radiotron 807 but unfortunately there is hum on the left channel. It's the tube. 807 are gorgeous sounding. May have to get another pair again.

Have both 6.3 and xlr for output. Doesn't cost that much more to add xlr output and it's a big convenience if your headphone cables are all terminated in xlr like mine are except for the Grados.
I have just written to him.
Let's see what he thinks and what is possible.
It's really stupid that I've already received my Lektrik C cable from Zmf.
As it is on 6.3 mm jack, but I could still use it.
I only have the Ofc cable there from Zmf and another one which is Xlr and probably both are silver cables.
Well I will have to get a copper headphone cable with XLR at some point.

My Oblivion has only xlr output and that's my regret because I can't use Grados with it. So get both 1/4 and xlr out. I have it on all my other amps.

Okay,
I'll try to work it out with Eric.

Does Nick's UltimatE still output sound via the 6.3 mm jack if it only has XLR connected to the input or does it need a switch to define the source?
I know that this is often the case with today's amplifiers.
I just don't know how it is with Eric's amplifiers.

With the more modern amps you only do this with the switch because there were users in the past who thought they could use both outputs at the same time if the amp had XLR and 6.3.

You will see that Nick's Ultimate has 2 knobs in the front panel. The middle knob is volume and the right knob is the rotary knob to switch between rca or xlr. Both cables can be plug in at once and you control it with the switch.

On our wooden chassis Ultimate, it will be a switch (A or B position) rather than a rotary knob. A rotary knob is only needed if you have 3 inputs or more.

I can't imagine how well this amp handle KT88. This is very good sound with Psvane KT88-Tii.

That's correct. Look at Bcowen. If he had listen to me, he would have become Prime Minister but he's driving a gold cart now instead. Instead of taking the xlr route, he took the rca route. Sigh.

This is what happened the last time I listened to you.

look forward to seeing your impressions on it.
So far I have 2 home runs with Teles. 12au and 12ax

Telefunken ECC801S has surgical precision. Extended high end, prominent mids and tight bass. I'm using it with a new pair of GE 6y6g grey glass. All tubes here and amp needs burn in. Will probably take me 6 months. :)

ECC801s is your typical Telefunken sound signature. I do like it a lot but I also like the other 12AT7s in my collection.

Brimar CV455 Footscray, GEC A2900, Mullard 6201 PQ. There's also Philips E80CC SQ, Miniwatt 6BQ7A, Voskhod 6N23P 1975.

Ken Rad 6sn7gt is not as revealing as these noval tubes. It's also warmer and more relaxing. Good when you need this kind of mood. Like spin some slow blues and have a shot of whisky.
