I can save some time. Get a dual 7A4 to 6SN7 adapter and then a pair of Hytron 7A4's. Not CBS/Hytron, just Hytron (pre CBS) with the 3/4 getter flash and round black plates. Then a Tung Sol 5998 and you're done.

It's the twin to a 6J5 except with a loctal base. As 7N7 is to 6SN7. Not sure what vintage these 7A4's are, but CBS acquired Hytron in 1951 so I'm guessing they are '40's or very early '50's. Pretty special to my ear.

Eric has just replied that I can use the EL12 ..... so I will order a pair of adapters.

C3G has high mu when used in triode mode equal to 40, it is not good for power tube.

6BX7 and 6BL7 works very well as drivers and sound good !

Hahahaha this is ridiculous. 6BX7 and 6BL7 sounds very good as drivers. Grado has body now and bass weight and overall clarity.

Get yourself one of each.

Out of left field emerge a driver that has shot to the top of the pack. It's rather incredible. I had to listen for a few hours to be sure.

With a gutsy midbass, vocals that command your attention and there's treble energy. This is the combination of GE 6BX7gt and GE 6y6g smoke glass. Yes a full GE combination and to haters of GE, you're missing out.

I've never thought of using 6bx7 and 6BL7 as drivers but yet here they are, natural born drivers, Formula One racers. Highly recommended.

Alright folks, a bit of hiss starts creeping in with 6bx7 and 6BL7. I suggest you forget about using these as drivers. Stick to the many other good drivers. Cheers.
