How does the mcchanson amp compare to the sonnett?
Eric is building my S UltimatE now and i hope to receive it in early of March. Of the 4 amps i have now, Woo WA22 ( 2nd Gen), Ultrasonic Studios Oblivion, LTA MZ3 and DNA Sonett 2. The DNA has the best vocals, i love vocals and mids.

For the nerds amongst you, this is from Eric….

In all McChanson ( including UltimatE ) amps, the power tube socket has pin 1 tied to pin 8 ( pin 8 is the cathode ) for the 6L6GC family power tubes, As for those Glass GT or G tubes, pin 1 is NOT used, so it has no affect. if the power tube is metal, then the metal is then connected to the cathode and there are two effects :

(a) As continuous as isolation as before - no problem.
(b) Bring the metal tube onto the cathode with the cathode voltage ( if the power tubes are auto-bias, as in UltimatE, the effect is minimal on fixed bias as the standard integrated amps. , as in this case the cathode voltage is very low.)
The effect of (b) is that the metal tube carries a cathode positive voltage, but as it is about and less than 20V, no harm to touch. but one precaution that needs to be noted is that do not connect a wire from the metal tube to the chassis which may make the cathode voltage to zero that is no good... but who else wants to do that, mostly it is accidental.

One may ask can we remove the connection between pin 1 and pin 8? Yes we can, but when we use tubes like EL34, we may need an adapter EL34 to 6L6 socket adapter, also when we use metal tubes we lose the shielding effect.

Very nice, you have done everything right, I would love to spend a few hours with your toys 🤩

It will be exciting to see what place UltimatE will take, maybe something will be displaced 🧐

I recommend a backup for the EL39, I wouldn't sleep easy with just one pair. 6EM7s are not yet in evidence...

I retired 7 weeks ago and now spend my time supervising my wife to make sure she does things to my satisfaction.

(and if you believe that last part, I'm still selling bridges as a part-time gig )
