Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

I have a kink / bend in my small ear canals. Normal iems just fall out (regardless of tip types) and the treble part of the sound doesn’t make it round. (And forget about sub bass)

customs stay in

I had them made to reach into my ear as long as possible to deliver sound “round the bend” direct to my eardrums - and it worked.

I trialed iems at a Can Jam and shoved them in place with both hands - I picked EE Nemesis.

Love em.

Definitely great value.

I’m a bit late to the party but will be joining the EE family soon. There was simply no turning back after I chanced upon this pic.

so I managed to source a pair and should be getting it on Fri or over the weekend.

The 1Z can’t wait now. Read a number of reviews and most say the stock Ares II performs really well and there is no need to upgrade cables. I do have a Horus and 1960s available to pair though.

I still don’t quite understand how customs manage to work or sound the same.

I would wager you would get clearer sound with the stem reaching further into your ear.

The final output port of the audio will be closer to your eardrum than with a standard iem. Also the variable of all the million types of tips and final fit (Varying distance from eardrum) is removed.

1960s 2-wire is a fantastic cable, it gives my Zeus XR the needed missing bass omph while keeping mids and highs intact (and as beautiful as they were)

make sure you pair it with your EE iem (although i don't know which iem you got or if you have the 2w or the 4w cable)

I got the Legend X Japan Gold IEMs which are bass heavy so prob should shy away from cables which emphasize bass. Mine is 4 wire 1960s.

yeah 1960s 2w is great for the bass-lite Zeus XR , but Legend is already a bass beast so better stay away

ask the legend owners for some cable recs , if the ones you already have don't do the trick

Must be related. My right ear is similar. To the point the audiologist I go to now said "you have all sorts of dips and grooves going on in there!" so no wonder universals don't fit me. Right now it's getting to the point I can't use customs or universals thanks to the wax build up (again, thanks stupid cold back in march, three weeks after getting them done!) so until I can get that sorted out (not likely till June :frowning2: ) no impressions for me.

Actually just found an old shot of the impressions I sent in to CA last time here you go (excuse the disgusting wax on one of them) :-

@hshock76 congrats on the new purchase! I also pulled the trigger on a Legend X last week :) anxiously waiting for it to arrive.

Are the different coloured universals tuned differently from one another? I bought one with a wood faceplate. Do they sound the same as the black ones?

I’m not sure about the ones with wood faceplate universals. What I know is that there are 2 universal SE versions that are tuned differently; the HK SE with brushed grey face plate and the Jap Gold SE with the brushed gold face plate. These I believe have a wider sound stage, more forward mids and extended treble. Basically what it means is that u get a more balanced signature vs the normal versions where bass is the focus.
