Eddie Current Zana Deux owners

This does look incredible. I'm very very tempted to order one...

I'm going to try and hold off until we get a few more listening reviews, though. If they're all as positive as the initial impressions, and the price stays at 1600, I'm going to have to get one.

BTW, does anyone who talks to Craig regularly know what he charges for a Phono Pre Amp?

you could do it for under 100 dollar, i went for some fancy tubes to it costs me closer to 200. I don't know how long, better ask Craig about that one.

Is that a SS or hybrid - does it have any tubes?

not sure the exact fate of the hybrid amp but the ec-ss is a complete solid state amp.

He has more designs than time at the moment, producing the Zana, ECSS and 300 take alot of time for a one man operation.
personally I would love to see him get back into the home amp business. if you have a moment go into the Moth section of the eddie current web site there are some beautifull beasts in there.

I would never buy an amp or preamp that was not point to point. Even most of my dac is point to point but then I built it. Now with regards to portables I compromise but the one good thing about portables is that normally the traces are very short and if the designer knows what they are doing the interaction will be at a minimum, or as much as possible.

What do you mean by this? Is the Zana outsourced? The EC designs [aesthetic not electronic] aren't as radical as Moth, but I assumed that the build quality was the same or comparable.
Craig definitely designed the Zana, I just assumed that they were made by him as well...

I always wanted the Moth si2A3. Its tank-like construction was impressive. I never saw a Xana but I hope the Zana Deux lives up to its namesake.
The Moth Audio stuff was really something else...

The amp is outsourced.

hi. I got an email from Craig today. this is a partial quote:
Quote:
I have fallen slightly behind
schedule by using an assembly house to build the amplifiers. They only do
military contracts, and the five units will be built as samples for the next
run. They are saying ten days from 9/18. I hope this does not inconvenience
you in anyway. I cannot build them myself to their standards, and it is
important to me that the amplifiers are consistent.

so i guess this is confirmation for the end of the month for the first few ZDs and a second run afterwards.

Actually, this makes sense. That's a lot of soldering. Not only might they be able to build a more consistent product -- but hopefully we (the consumer) are saving some money by not paying for Craig's labor as he assembles these one at a time.

I hope this is the case. Has anyone opened one of these up to actually see the construction? maybe peeked inside at the Meet?

If it sings as sweetly as the Moth and is built as ruggedly, I'm sold. Not gonna make the same mistake twice...

I received confirmation from Craig that mine will ship Tuesday. One of the buyers will be at the Bay area meet this weekend so we will get some pics and hear some impressions.

Slight correction: granodemostasa's ZD will be at the meet but he will not. Sad for him, but pretty cool for the rest of us!

Also, I think the Bay Area Meet owes the other ZD owners a partial apology. I am speculating a bit, but I think Craig's extra effort to get his HD-30 prototype in shape for the meet may have slowed him down on the last stages of QC on the ZDs. Again, sad for you guys, but pretty cool for us!

The one benefit is that you will be seeing some nice pics of both come Saturday. Hopefully, that will tide you over...
