Which is exactly why my wallet is going to cry if your Velvet is an all-round upgrade to your SM64

Well, so I got them yesterday. I don't normally have first impression eargasmic experiences. I had one in a long time.
Nozzle is a lot bigger so I can not use the Westone true-fit foam tips like I did with the SM64. Currently, I'm using them with my favorite T-Peos tips with the monster tip mod to be able to fit them on. I'm going to try comply over the weekend and see which size is most appropriate. Definitely an all-around upgrade to the SM64 for me but the large boxy plastic housing hurts my ears. Hopefully, foam will help with comfort as well. As for sound, I will comment in detail after more time with it and tip rolling and brain burning. But from what I see so far, I think I may not be purchasing another in-ear for quite some time.

listened to the Velvet today at a shop in Hong Kong, so impressive! the sound stage is HUGE, even slightly bigger then my ie800, and the mid range is so milky and nice, the bass performance is the only part my ie800 can win (just a little bit better).

make me start considering to sell my ie800 and buy Velvet...

Very impressed with soundstage as well.

How's the bass against dynamic drivers such as ASG-2.5? The bass qualities still very BA-like?

I like the bass a lot more on the Velvet. The tuning feature feels a lot more different and is less noticeable than when I fiddled with the bass knob on the ASG-2.5. I've experienced BA in ears with dynamic driver-like bass and dynamic drivers with BA-like bass so I will just say what I felt. When turning the knob it doesn't feel like night and day difference like on the ASG-2.5. When turned up, it doesn't sound as bloated and boomy. When I turned up the bass on the ASG-2.5 I felt a bit of muddiness coming in from the mid-bass range but it is not like that on the Velvet. Currently, loving the amount of rumble expressed on the wide soundstage. I haven't had much time with it yet so these are just some of my initial impressions. I just admire the treble so much like I did on the SM64. The upper mid dip is similar with the SM64. I'm also finding it quite sensitive compared to many in-ears I've tried in terms of source dependancy. I am able to notice some poorly recorded/mastered fragments on 320kbps tracks which were fine on others. Either they really are of less quality recording/mastering and the Velvet is being honest about it, or it's the Velvet that is not playing the way I want it to be heard...which I wasn't able to notice before. Other tracks, the Velvet's expression of it is really beautiful. Just give me some time with it ;)

Tip update.
I wanted to use foam tips on the Velvet because I was use to a foam tip sound while using the Westone True-fit with the SM64.
So I used the monster tip adapter and put on the T-400. Tx-400 to be honest. It works fine with the adapter. I also tried Veritas foam tips but couldn't get a comfortable fit with those. So far Comply Tx-400 Large size with the monster tip adapter is working best for me. I don't have the T-200 size but I wonder if that should fit. It has a strange nozzle size like the MEE A161 if anyone has tried those.

I was talking with Dimitri about the Velvet tour and noticed that he is matching Amazon and going it one better - adding a free gift - you'll have to check it out to see for yourself!

Just think it is cool to keep some of the business between friends with all things being equal (price, etc...)

Looking forward to getting some impressions of this headphone!
