I'm wondering how to remove the 601/701s earpads from the headphone? Are there any who have done this, or know how?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

just to confirm the above post is correct

But the "pull" isn't like a strong pull or anything. Once you've twisted the pad counter-clockwise, the tabs will no longer be interlocked and the pads should just come right off.

Thus turning the AKG's into Grado's

Never tried this until now. Now I can see some pesky dust to clean off

Will be interesting to try the sound with the foam ring inserts out as well.

[edit]If that's really what a Grado sounds like I'm not sure I want to hear one again

Anyway it's amazing how flimsy and light they feel without the pads.

I know there have been topics about the pads before, but of the ones I found I could never figure out if the K701 pads actually do fit on the K601. Picture I've seen pretty much confirm they do, though. The colour of the K701 pads would be interesting with the K601, but I'm not sure how the fit would be because the K701 has one deeper/thicker side. If anyone has tried it I would be interested to know the results (mainly on fit), because I might get some (I might do it anyway because then I can wash my K601 pads and still use the headphones whilst the pads dry).

Thanks you all for the info. I was able to remove the earpads without a problem.

Does anyone know if this applies to the K702 as well? wouldn't wanna break any cabling by twisting the pads if there is any.

Good thread! Now I know how to get the pads off for cleaning or replacement. I took them off a few minutes ago and washed them gently. After a few years, they needed it.

Nice.. I pretty much stumbled upon this.. and you guys made me remove my pads just cos i was curious. It was quite cool to see the drivers.. but I was surprised by how small they are. I have the K701s
