E10, new USB DAC ( updated with photos of real E10 )

I have managed to draw up the schematic of the relevant portion of E10 and the components to be removed in order to install the crossfeed circuit. Unfortunately, the bass boost switch is referenced to ground with the common contact. If it should be used for for the crossfeed, the ground PCB trace or the switch contact pins need to be cut and I'm not sure if I want to do that. The schematic also shows where to attach the crossfeed circuit with eight wires plus ground.

So I conclude:
1. It's possible to add a crossfeed circuit
2. It's not difficult
3. If the crossfeed circuit is to be enabled/bypassed using the bass boost switch, irreversible modifications of the original PCB or components are required.
4. A permanent crossfeed circuit can be added with only four wires plus ground and without irreversible changes. I think most people (including me) wouldn't want that.

I also found a possible cause for the bass boost imbalance that some people described. One pin of the switch wasn't properly (hand-)soldered. Although this had no effect in my amp, I can imagine that this could look worse in other amps.

In the first step I will modify the bass boost as described and then I will think about if I want to do the irreversible modifications to my amp. I will try to post frequency response measurements of the modified bass boost in the next days.

Up until today I was not a fan of the bass boost on the E10.  I have been using the E10 with my HD448s and IE8s and the bass switch really just added a whole pile of mud to either.  A pair of ATH-ES7s just arrived yesterday that I purchased from a forum member and while I generally like them, they started off a little bright and harsh for my tastes.   I figured I would just upgrade and get the ESW9s but dropping another $220 on a pair of headphones would most likely put me in the dog house.

So by chance, I just flipped the bass switch to On and to my surprise it warmed up the ES7s just the right amount for my preference.

Will it save me from dropping $220 on the ESW9s?  Probably not, but it should hold me over long enough to keep out of trouble until upgraditis takes over.

So for now I am going to try and convince myself that E10 + ES7 + Bass On = ESW9, or at least it 's better than wallet + ESW9 =

I decided to add the crossfeed circuit. Works as intended, sounds great.

Maybe we should includes crossfeed to our products in the future.

Maybe someone can help me out with an e10 problem.

My e10 used to automatically shut off (blue on light would turn off) when I shut the lid on my Macbook.
Now, the e10 stays on, and only shuts off if I unplug my computer from the outlet.

What happened here?
And how do I turn off the e10 without always unplugging my laptop?

Thanks

Very sorry, E10 does not includes a power switcher so you can not turn off it unless you unplug it from your laptop.

Are you sure your macbook is going into sleep mode when closing the lid?  When I put my computer to sleep, the e10 turns off.

my e10 used to turn off when i shut the lid, and then just a few days ago it stopped turning off.
closing the lid always puts a Mac into sleep mode (there's no way to change that function in system preferences), so i'm not sure what the problem is.

Well, I'm actually running MBA in clamshell mode with the tbolt display..... so it doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid.

Hello ! I have a Fiio E10 and i want to buy a AKG k701. It`s a good choice, or the headphone will be severely limited by the dac/amp ? Does anyone have this configuration

Hey..

I'm going to buy an E10 for home purposes (laptop + speakers/headphones) ok.. but I want to make sure about one thing.

Since the E10 has to recieve power from USB-in, is there a way that my iPod Touch can be the "stationary laptop"?
Or to make the iPod work with E10... it just won't.. xD (okay, by the laptop)

Solution: E17? xD

Nope the E10 would not work with your iPod touch but the E17 would

you just asked and answered your own question. nice.
so yes, if you're going to be using an ipod, skip the e10 and just get an e17 plus a LOD (like the L9)

i have the e10, but have not listened to the k701. however, I have read way too many pages on this forum, and the k701's are relatively hard to drive and need a quality amp.
the e10 won't cut it.
if you're looking for a budget amp, the e9 would do better. i have the e9+e10 paired together, and it works pretty well.
use the search engine on here to read more about the k701's and amp pairing.
