I'm curious what folks think about the comparison between powering the 12V input via battery vs LPSU.

I had my first go round this morning enabling supergain using the Anker power bank. The change seemed subtle at first, but after listening for a few minutes, going back and forth between regular/super gain, I realized that the additional power gave the whole musical spectrum better note definition / more instrument separation.

Curious if there are additional gains by going with an LPSU vs the power bank.

I have covered this before. Having LPSU, a proper build one, the 340 scale up so much more. Powerbank and wall adaptors are almost similar. Eventhough different PB will have different build (battery management circuits and LDO regulators + different batteries itself). These differences are nothing in comparisons to a properly build LPSU. It would be a quantifiable factors of a 30% improvement with wall adaptors to 40% with Power Bank, and with LPSU that I have, the improvement is a 100%.

It scales so much more that I thought I am listening to a different device. I held back talking about it since people can be strange by asking, does that mean the 340 is intentionally underpowered and listening to 12V with LPSU is the standard ? That means 340 fail as a portable.

No, the 340 is an amazing portable player. With an additional transformation that scales so much more with a high quality LPSU.

Why is that so ? I will answer with my own experiences and experiments. Because Power Sources is everything!!!!!

It is like you are making Teas or Coffee. If you use pure Water, it is different than using whole milk or half and half for example.

Even different Batteries can sound different if they are all comming into the very same Battery Management system, take Cayin C9 for example. I heard the differences, hence I researched about it back then. It was the chemical reactions that pump out different power curves of voltage/amp and voltage noises, which makes the amplifier behave differently, subtles, yet, observable if desired so and with good gears/experiences.

Then I have built many Stax amplifiers from the KGHV amps all the ways to T2 amplifiers. Every changes of components, Opamps whether it is a filter or feedbacks and so are capacitors and resistors, they all play a role. They play a role as much as the air gaps, the PCB submaks, the Copper traces can all play a role. Let alone a different architects and designs of the entire LPSU by itself.

Not all LPSU are built the same. One example I can give you is that when building A Gaming PC, the same rated power of 1600W PSU can have different grades to another 1600W and they dont perform the same under different scopes of measurements. That is why I explicitly mentioned about what I have deemed to be the best LPSU for common dynamic amp for a single Rail voltage, the sigma 11, and the Dual Rail Voltage is the sigma 22.

Yes, it is a DIY, you can find it off ebay but they are unofficial. Because officially, it is a customizable and DIY only projects for the best suitable to a person preferences. Also in respect to Tikhan developments

I have been lately looking into Battery packs as another alternative, and while the solutions are out there, to extract the most out of it would be very hard as battery packs are a potent, highly flamable and unextinguishable once happened. That is why it isnt a recommended DIY project either.

I recomment people to keep finding PowerBank that list explicitly 12V-5A (the amp can varies) from their output ports. All you need to do is to find a suitable USB trigger 12V and an adaptor. That way your battery packs are foolproof and poses litte to zero risks of magic smokes 😅. They dont all sound the same 🤑 If you are in that game, feel free to give feedbacks and posts and share with all of us

Still, I Am very much amazed by the 12V feature from the 340!!! It had to be done properly in order to scale up this much from different sources.

It is easy to make a player with gimmick features for a 12V or desktop mode and limits it down in order to perform much better with different sources and exhibit little to zero noises/hiss. But it is NOT easy to make a device that is so small, yet powerful, Sensitive enough to tell the stories of the different sources

Lol does that answer your question? 😂

Get power bank that uses SAME battery type as iBasso uses today and can compare. So far LifePO4 in EcoRiver sound the best. I get no hiss or noise with EcoRiver. SQ is fantastic, better than Li Ion power bank I have been using. Much cheaper than LPSU. I do not use EcoRiver plugged into grid as that could introduce noise.

Those with batteries that drain excessively when idle or powered off are likely defective batteries according to Bloom. They have been replacing those units with brand new ones. I call that a GREAT company!! They only will do that if you bought your unit from Bloom. I would imagine those that are having battery issues could contact Paul and he could send out a new battery as it is easy to replace.

Sounds good, I chose this because its the most compact. I bought from Taobao but AliX link for same product if interested.

https://a.aliexpress.com/_onAtChE
As far as I can tell this LPSU has 12V and just 1A as output...which is less than the official PSU (12V ... 1.5A) that comes with DX340.
I do like that it's compact but...I don't think it outputs enough power in order to maximize the gains of DC IN on the AMP15.
Ideally you always want/need more power, not ever less so...
Did someone mention about a portable audiophile battery supply previously and ask if it can be modified to run 12V ? I cant remember what it is called here to search up lol
Yes, If I recall correctly, I think it was Aroma Audio PS100 PRO Power Station for A100 Amplifier.
