I'm currently in email chats with Paul - being out of the game for quite a few years, only in the last 12 mths I've been slowly getting back into audio - and my NW-WM1Z is showing its age, in addition to my DX200 volume is playing up (jumping all over the place and at times to a dangerous volume).

Initially contemplated on the NW-WM1ZM2 but thought I'd expand the DX340 too. Been reading reviews, the DX340 seems quite capable and competitive with other brand offerings.

How warm does the DX340 get when running? I'm curious with Jutem's and iBasso's original cases, if the ventilated back is just design or if it's a practical need?

That raises an interesting question, at least to me. Any idea who makes the stock case for the DX340, and if so, do they sell to the public?

I wanted to report a strange issue I'm having with my battery usage and see if anyone else has noticed this. For the first few weeks I was letting my battery fully discharge and then would charge the DX340 charge in the powered off stage. I would typically see about 10% battery drainage for every 12 hours of being idle. No problems there.

Recently I've started charging it when the battery is low at say 10% vs waiting until the battery fully discharges.

Yesterday I put the 340 on to charge in the morning and left it to charge for about 10 hours while I was at work. Came home, saw that it was at 100% so I unplugged it.

A few hours later I plugged in a new set of IEMs that arrived (Astrolith) just to test them out. I played 3 tracks just to verify all was working before I had to go do something else. I left UAPP running in the background but it was the only app. No music was left playing. I think the battery was at ~98%.

This morning I got up at my normal time and the battery was all the way down to 65%. Android says that in the past 14 hours Android System used 2% and Android OS used 1%. No other indicators.

I have run @Stouthart debloating scripts and have run the advanced tweaking scripts as well. I currently have "Uninstalled" the advanced tweaking scripts just to compare to see if I can notice a sound change.

I do know that UAPP Just released a new version so wondering if it was just burning through resources in the background even though not in use.

Anyone else seeing similar behavior?

With DAP on and plugged into a computer you can run "top" to see what is using most CPU. If you see UUAP in the list while it is not in use but open in background that could be the hog.

I've been using Symfonium, along with my usual Foobar2k, Radio Paradise and Qobuz and noticed much more energy consumption. 'Top' shows that Symfonium uses 4x-10x the CPU to play the same files type/bitrate, from local storage, as Radio Paradise 10x, Qobuz 4x and FB2k 10x. Not all apps are created equal or have equal efficiency.

You are absolutely correct. Neutron will use more cpu than mango for example playing same track from local storage.

I do not think it was built that way, I believe due to the dual battery setup one for the digital/android and the other for the dac and sound components. My understanding is that the 12V input just powers the dac side. If the OS is not booted the dac will not work. Some one can correct me if Im wrong.

No. Battery is needed to boot. Already tried without it installed while hooked up to usb power bank. If you want battery to last for years use in battery bypass all the time like I do. 12V DC In only powers Amp where battery bypass powers everything if 12VDC in not used. Ibasso will always have battery available but could be expensive with tariffs. Takes same as Dx320 it appears from Bloom sales page.

iBasso still stocks DX100 batteries. You will never get out of battery for your DX340.

BTW, DC 12V is only to boost the power output of the amp and not run the device.

The amp 15 compared to the 14 is night and day difference in sound signature. Amp 14 has a lot more bass and treble is amplified. It also sounds more spacious than the amp 15 and 16 in my opinion. I feel like the amp is more detailed than the amp 16. You will definitely notice the boost to the lower frequencies. The only downside to the 14 that I have is the loss of a 3.5 and the 12v input. If it wasn't for these two, I would still be using it.

I got the gear to try from my friend. Very nice of him to trust me with some very expensive stuff.

Amp14 is brand new literally. I thought he was going to send me the one he had for awhile. It needs to be burned in. I remember Amp13 improving a lot with some hours of use. First impressions out of the box Amp15 with SG is more my preference but I will reserve judgment until it has at least 100 hours on it. I will just let it run on one of my 340s for several days. I polished the 340 plate both sides and it installed without any issues.

The Amp he sent is close to Amp 15 with super gain but I think Amp 15 SG beats it. Sounds best with Amp15 with DC 12V in set to LO. Amp14 LO it did not sound nearly as good but needs burn in before I make final judgment. This tells me iBasso did a really good job on Amp15 if it can beat a $3k Amp. My friend has never heard Dx340 but will be sending him one in less than 2 weeks that he can try until Steve is ready to have me send in for mods.

I have Aroma Audio Jewel and UM Mason Fable Sound to try on Dx340. Have not gotten to those yet. Anyone with Dx340 have these iems?

The rotating of screen is done with a sensor in DAP. Even on a cell phone sometimes this does not work right. If you want it to rotate you can enable the feature. If not you can disable it. In developer options there is



You have to turn on Sensors Off by pulling down the notification bar. The setting does not stay on reboot but does on DX320 and DX260. This will disable this until DAP is rebooted.

@Sonywalkmanuser Yes this is not a good time in US to buy anything from China. Bloom told me prices will be going up with 125% tariff!! We can talk politics here so will not comment. They lead me to believe they have been eating the 10%/20% and not passing on to customers. Assume their cost is $1000 (I don't know what it actually is) so now they will pay $2250 their "cost" plus mark up. I would guess price of DX340 will be just under $3k on newly imported units. This will also boost prices in used market for those that take advantage of people and sell for more than they paid before tariff started. My used DX340 could sell for say $2k or even $1800 even though I paid $1500. I am not a jerk like that and would not do that to people. This will effect our entire hobby.

Bottom line if you want to buy a DX340 NOW is the time to do it. Its an AWESOME DAP - Ibasso's best one yet especially if you consider all the new features it has like battery by-pass and 12V DC in. Repairs are not tariffed. If a mod done in UK can be declared as a repair it will not be tariffed. Bad news for AMP17/18 though which will be twice the price. Mods will likely be cheaper than buying new AMP17/18 and you won't be giving your money to the government.

Personally for me, I would prioritise the software player/decoder that provides the best sound quality first over the raw cpu efficiency. Neutron does a lot of adjust sound processing like dithering and 64bit floating point calculations, so I think it might be worthwhile.

Yeah, it's all about tradeoffs. I'm old and my hearing isn't as acute as when I was younger (though I definitely am enjoying Stouthart debloat/optimization tweaks). Symfonium is a fantastic looking player and I enjoy using it when battery life is not a big issue but it's nice to know that if I have to extend play time I can using FB2K or Radio Paradise.

I really enjoy Symfonium one button track or album mix playlist creation in surprise me mode.

Tariffs will likely be on their next shipment import from China/when they run out of their current stock. If you were charged $1699 that is all you will pay.

@Sonywalkmanuser I totally agree which is why Neutron is what I use. What people use depends on their preferences.
