When the volume control is not digital are there enough steps to control very sensitive IEMs in low gain? How much steps?
Is it dead silent with sensitive IEMs?
24 steps attenuations
4 gains levels
Don’t have sensitive enough iems to test it out , but so far for headphones, it is dead silent

Of course, it will depend on your hearing level; I get messages from some of my readers who listen to their iems 10 clicks higher than I am. So, I can only speak based on my brief testing last night when I received MAX32O.

The volume adjustment is very unique, it's like a relay switch, not a continuously fluid pot, but rather a volume adjustment with small coarse steps. In my brief test with Andromeda 2020, Solaris 2020, and VE Phoenix in Gain I the volume level was comfortable at around 4 clicks, 9 o'clock setting, and NO hissing at all. With EE Odin I listened to around 5 clicks, closer to 10 o'clock. For the reference, volume 0 is around 7 o'clock.

IMHO, maybe iBasso can add an option in software setting for "sensitive iems" by dropping digital volume to 80% that will give a bit more volume adjustment range. Of course, the best sound performance is at 100% fixed digital volume (DAC) and ultimate mode (all 4 ROHM DACs enabled).

So far, I'm very impressed with a sound quality. Give me a few more days for a proper burn in and I will compare MAX220, MAX300, and MAX320.

Unit #015 reporting in - got this in 2 days ago and right upon opening the box I was impressed. This unit is a solid hunk of metal - massive, shiny and super premium looking and feeling.

I got to listen to it with the IE900 & Tansio Mirai RGB first and compared it with the DX320 Edition X - another one of my recent favorite DAP discoveries. Will be trying with several more iem's in the coming days.

I am a huge fan of the voicing of iBasso's latest generation DAP's. They are going for transparency, dynamics, speed & in my honest opinion - class-leading resolution.

The DX320MAX TI SLAMS. It is extremely technical and essentially serves as a supercar in the porta-fi realm.

This is High Fidelity as it should be. Maybe some ears won't be able to handle the intense and exhilarating ride

For the better part of the last 3 years I've been on the lookout for a portable source that can compete with Hugo2 but nothing ever really compelling showed up. DX320x was the one to finally be sufficiently impressive but with all the added functionality, better portability & more features. DX320MAX probably even exceeds that performance of Hugo2 all while being a more practical product (in my opinion).

DX320MAX TI is voiced like the DX320x (transparent, dynamic, toe-tapping, fast) but with a more expansive stage and better imaging cues, and texturally it has more layered and incisive treble definition. It's super impressive. There is absolutely 0 smoothening of notes or transients, for better or for worse.

The 3 simple drawbacks for me where I still prefer the DX320X are the following:
- Portability
- Larger screen
- Swappable amp modules

These are the sacrifices that are needed in order to extract the highest level of performance today in mobile audio.

Happy listening :)

Thank you for your initial impressions  and confirming why I should abstain and await for next MAX version.

I don't know how you gathered that from his impressions.

Owning N8ii (ROHM), auditioned 320 and 320X, and description of "incisive treble definition" was all I needed and which is why I no longer have the N8ii. Don't get the wrong impression with my comment, I'm not knocking 320MAX and I love my iBassos but subjectively and unfortunately ROHMs haven't been for me.

Have you tried the other Max's? Maybe the 300 is more to your liking.

I've owned 300MAX SS since launch and its been great complimentary DS DAP to RS8. One reason looking to upgrade was for the all analog controls which is the largest QoL improvement over 300MAX.

Let me get back on this one tonight after work, to run a direct a/b comparison with N8ii, especially after overnight burn in of MAX320. From a brief impression last night, I don't think treble was brighter or more intense than N8ii, and the same goes for MAX320 vs MAX300 SS with the latter one being more revealing in comparison... Let me gather more thoughts tonight once I'm home. Also, please keep in mind, similar to RS8 with turbo mode on/off, relative to some iems a boost in gain/output can affect the treble like it did with MM ;)

@twister6 Thanks and appreciate you as aways, Alex. Knowing we all hear differently and if 320MAX's treble isn't as bright or more intense than N8ii, that would be more than enough for me edge closer to adding another MAX. 🤭
