DX320MAX Ti The musical event worth the wait. ROHM X 4. !! NEW Firmware: 2.03 !!

Received my 320 MAX TI today, had about an hour with it. Thing that has struck me most is just how demanding the Duality IEMs are, I am using balanced output and needing to use gain switch 4 and the volume is at 1/2 o'clock and I get decent levels of volume, running it in Ultimate mode. Not sure how long that will drain the battery as yet, but at least I could just leave it plugged into DC I guess. Too early to say too much about the sound, an interesting comparison for me will be this and the Hugo 2, the latter I am very used to and I think the TI will take me some warming to. Tempted to debloat based on posts here, although I really only live inside Tidal so my needs are pretty basic and I may not need to do that.
What's your DAC volume at?

Did you happen to turn off the DSD Volume Match? I know doing that made a huge difference for me.

Yep, DAC volume is 100% and DSD is switched off. I mean, its loud enough as it is now so I don't think its an issue as such and there cant be many more demanding IEMs out there than the Dualitys :)

Yeah, that's pretty demanding!

Typically for me, I do my research after buying the product than before where it would have made more sense, and I am curious about the charging of this.

Correct me if I am wrong but I understand for this to work, the digital section needs charging via USB-C whilst the amp section uses DC mains. If both or either of these deplete, its game over until that is rectified with a charge.

- Would USB-C on its own cover a full charge, or is there no getting around needing two charging cables?
- Happy for this to sit on my desk plugged in continually as I prefer 'set and forget'. Is there an issue with doing this which I should concern myself with?
- If a concern is over battery ageing, can I not just take the batteries out and leave it plugged into the two cables?
- In the battery section I can only see one charging indicator, if two sections are needed (DAC and AMP) does it display the % of both anywhere, or are they amalgamated?

It displays both on the home screen up at the top right, whether in mango OS or android. I'll send pics in discord.

Regarding charging, treat it like any other device that uses lithium battery. There's no bypass.

@Doug2507

Hey mate, I'm seriously considering Steve's EXN+ mod. Would you be able to tell me what your impressions are of how, and by how much, it improves sound, as well as your baseline setup? Mine is iems on Mango OS (only listen to my on-board library, never stream), Ultimate mode, gain 1, DAC 93, Analog all the way up. I'd really appreciate it.

I've had it for over 2 years now and with a good and synergizing pair of iems the sound is stupendous, but if it can be perceivably improved, then... It's rather a steep price for the upgrade, hence my question.

Thanks

Me interested as well

Near enough the same for me right now tbh, Mango / local, Ultimate, DAC 92, gain 1, analogue past 12 (I can't do full pelt, way too loud, even with DSD), DSD leveling disabled (I've got volume variance in my lib so just adjust per album), D1.

EXN, and plus, is / are superb IMO. Rocky ride though, EXN I had done first and took a fair while to settle in, plus mod I've found the same but maybe slightly less play time. Plus mod on top kind of felt like it put it back a step but I don't think that now. Both required what I'd say is lengthy break in to sound top notch. I tend not to listen too much during break in, check in for a few minutes now and again and just leave it on loop. I've not listened to it much since getting plus mod (EXN I put many hours on), not because I didn't want to, just other things going on, plenty of play time out of ear and a battery recycle. Just put it in now after listening to a mege bucks HP setup most of the day and and wow factor is definitely still there, I guess that says something about it (in this case in particular, paired with Storm / SS)...

Sound differences, different quality of player IMO. Doesn't loose the house sound but improves it top to bottom. If I listed what I thought was better than stock, it would come off as a load of hyperbole, so I won't. It's not a case of just "different", it's definitely "improved".

With Storm it's perfect pairing for me, I'd be very surprised if anything came along soon that could out do it. It'll happen one day no doubt but until then, 11/10 all day every day, it never fails to impress.

Hope this is somewhat helpful. Just one guys opinion though so...

@gentzen, where you located (roughly)?

Many thanks @Doug2507, really appreciate your time and trouble.

Yep, DSD leveling disabled for me too, D2 filter instead. I've got the Grand Maestro, which, albeit not perhaps a top-10 iem, is definitely a notch up from my previous ones ( Prestige LTD), mainly in the lows, without losing in detail, separation or correct instrument positioning. A slightly warmer sound (which does the mids tons of good), and perhaps less holography (but fairly wide and deep, just not too high).

My dilemma was whether to wait for a forthcoming DX340Max, but there's not been any word about whether even it's in testing stage. Plus, it's getting really hard to tell hype from reality and there's plenty of fanboism around to add copious noise to any signal. However, I'm tempted, despite the slightly steep price tag and long hours it takes for the mods to shine through (and I tend to listen through burn-in). If I'm honest, I think my endgame would be a player purely based on local playback (with no other wifi capabilities than for firmware updates), but with enough real estate to have almost high-end desktop level DAC, amp and power sections, even if that makes it slightly more bulky and heavy. I'd still take it to the hills or commute with me. Probably will never happen, though, as it won't find a big enough market. Plenty of folk (esp. of younger gens) like their streaming way too much :older_man: :ksc75smile:

As to where I'm based, it's been bonny Scotland for a few decades now, though I'm not a native. I guess sending my DAP to Steve is far easier and cheaper than if I was living abroad. How about yourself?
