Amp8mk2: Fiio FD1, AT R70x
Amp1mk3: Moondrop Variations

For some reason everything sounds amazing from amp8mk2, except variations. I even listened to a lot of ToTL IEMs in the shop, amp8mk2 sounds amazing with everything here too. Only variations need amp1.

Variations don't have bass through amp8.
Odd, the Amp8MKII is supposed to deliver a bit more bass boost. Perhaps the ears tips do not seal well, you could try a different pair.
I had actually been looking at Moondrop Variations, as an upgrade alternative, but now I'm thinking of buying the Yanyin Canon.

Done without removing IEMs from ear, so sealing uninterrupted

What in your opinion are the best headphows to compliment the DX240? I was interested in the iBasso SR3 but I see that they have a quality (paint peeling) problem so I don't think I want SR3 or SR2.
The SR3 and 2 are what I use most all the time over all of my headphones and they get a lot of use. There is no paint issue or QC that I have run into. I have had some real problems with headphones costing 5 times as much but not with the SR. And if you haven't heard the SR3, you are giving up on a major headphone with that really delivers on the sound.

Hey folks, do any of you hear any difference in dynamics when switching from low gain to medium gain with IEMs? Currently using u12t
I notice the most dynamics with high gain. Using high gain is the most direct route for the signal without be attenuated.

I can see in your signature you have a bunch of cans. I am not surprised you get the best out of them in high gain That is why I was referring specifically to IEMs, and more specifically to the 64 audios with their linear technology. I never understood how different amps can have make sound different in the 64 audios, let alone different gain levels on the same amp

I have many IEMs that I use and still, generally, prefer high gain.

I wrote a quick review of the Amp8 MK2S here: https://www.audiodiscourse.com/2023/04/ibasso-amp8mk2s-special-edition-amp.html

It is good combo for you? I'm wondering about buying U12T for DX240 with same AMP. Now I'm using Mest MKII but some time ago I heard U12T (but not on DX240) and I loved them.
it works alright. I found the stock amp too edgy. With amp8 mk2 it softened up a lot, maybe too much.
Now I don't know if it's placebo but on medium gain now and the notes appear to be less soft, bit more exciting without being too edgy. I am happy now
