A brief comparison between the DX 300 Amp 11 mki vs DX240 with the FiiO FD7 (balanced nozzle).
Roughly matched by ear , the DX240 has less than 30 hours of playing time.
Both have linear frequency response without deviating from the flat line.
Extension is equally great for both of them and there is no noticable roll off not in the bass nor in the highs.
Similarities end here.
The main difference is in timbre and presentation, like comparing an expensive vinyl set up vs a good sounding DAC.
The DX300 is considerably more organic and analogue like sound with very natural texture.
More full bodied and larger in the presentation, fuller, meatier.
Bass is better controlled, more tight and firm, still with fuller body and far greater macro dynamics.
Voices and instruments sound more lifelike , closer to reality , more engaging , more musical.
The DX300 is closer to the listener while the DX240 places him slightly farther from the stage.
The DX300 is finer, more articulated and resolving better micro details.
The DX240 is leaner and compared is sounding a bit artificial (only when compared).
The DX300 is throwing a wider and considerably deeper soundstage, holography is much better and is a master in communication the ambience and reverberation of the recording.
The DX300 is
definitely the better player.
There is absolutely no doubt.
But it is almost two times more expensive and the DX240 form factor is simply unbeatable.
If cash and space / portability is not of a problem then go grab a DX300 while stock lasts.
For the other, the DX240 is sounding just great without breaking the bank and it fits everywhere.
