My understanding is that the spidf bypasses the amp and the dac but the amp line out is fully processed by the amp as well. No matter though, it still sends the audio to the external amp and works for me. Isn't the amp line out also volume controlled and it is analog signal?
The line out is bypassing the amp section and comes from the dac chip. The volume is controlled digitally so even with that, the AMP is out of the loop. You are not double amping by using the line out.

I have a 2gb card that I only use for updates. I format it each time I use it to make sure it's clean. I down load the update file to the computer, copy it unzipped to the card then put the card in the dap and turn it on. Then follow the local update process.

The new update fixed my issue being able to scan my SD card in the Mango app in android. I even went out and bought a 512gb card thinking maybe I had an issue with my sandisk 400gb card. So maybe I will return the 512gb card or sell the 400gb card haha. I am just glad I was able to scan it now. Something with the last update broke it for me where the mango app would just crash after about 30-40% of an SD card scan.

Add-on 1.20b1 for firmware 1.11.140.

Notes:
  • It has implemented a different approach to control brightness at the low level.
  • It may help with "hang in suspend or on charger" problem (very few people experience it occasionally), but it was not tested by affected users. Please PM me if your device is affected.

Ah, I have that "hang on charger" problem too.
I have no, and it is very rare. That's why I ask first try the add-on, then, should the problem persist, PM me.

This has intrigued me, then why not having line out on the main body of DX220 (like some brands do), i.e. on top just next to the spdif and spare some bucks not having to implement LO on every amp? AMP8 doesn't have a line out.
So I always thought LO in different amps could have different sound signatures, according with the specifics of the AMP-
Thanks for clarifying
