with the unit off i start holding down the Play button then i connect with the other hand to the PC

no just press the middle button of the three on the side of the unit, maybe there is a fault with my player....
just got it on the unit using the micro usb card so alls good

Can I get some help updating firmware on my DX200? My Android version is 6.0.1
Build number 2.10.215
Which download from Ibasso site do i need? I downloaded the January 11th (android O, V1.0.5)
I put zip in sd card root and followed ibasso directions, but get this message

and then I put in internal memory and get same message. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and walk me through what I need to do?

You are on Android 6. You have to use the official download for Android 8 and use the tool that in the download and the driver, if you don't have the driver on your computer. You are changing from 6 to 8 so this requires the tool to be used and then you can update to the latest FW using the SD card. The direction and what you need are all in the official Android 8 download.
