DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

What sort of compensation are you running Shane - and what coupler was used for those measurements?  Very different to mine.  Quite different to Tylls as well (see his raw data)

Your compensation curves are quite a bit steeper. You're showing almost 10 dB between 100 Hz and 1 kHz - Tyll only shows 5dB on his calibrated set-up.  Your graph also is quite compressed where his more stretched (yours accentuates the dips and peaks more).  Not critiquing - just trying to get my head around things.

I still wouldn't call it V shaped, and I wouldn't regard the bass as overly boosted.

I'd definitely consider the J to be a V. It has boosted bass, albeit tastefully done and superbly performing. And it has mammoth amounts of treble. The midrange, while crystal clear and very resolving, is simply behind those two.

I totally agree. I love how it's tuned but I certainly understand why some find it a little too hot up top.

It's not my measurements. (I can't get anything useful out of the Veritas yet. Struggling to build a compensation file that makes raw measurements of the ER-4S match anything established from 711 compliant coupler). It's from Soeakerphone, who measures in-ears for Cymbacavum. Here is the link to his complete set of measurements of the J and Tom's analysis:

Here is a post on Speakerphone's set up on his blog:

Definitely agree that bass is not overly boosted. Quite tastefully boosted IMO. It's possibly the best in-ear bass I've heard.

Edit: I'd say Speakerphone's measurement results, in general, closely match Rin's. I usually can correlate my subjective listening experience closely to Rin and Speakerphone's data for in-ears.

I hope one of the newer models coming out from Dunu will come in a more neutral tuning but with similar performing bass to the J. I'd be more than happy to give something like that go. While the current Titan and J aren't my cup of coffee, they are certainly very good performers at excellent prices.

FWIW that graph looks definitely more like how I hear the DN2KJ, and since it looks V-shaped and since that is how I actually hear the DN2KJ I'm personally inclined to believe the above graph is the more accurate (wonder if the same source has a graph for the Fidue A83)

And thanks to shotgunshane (commander Taggart) for coming to my (Brandon's) rescue!

- Taggart: It's all real!
-Brandon: OMG, I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!

x2 - That would be enormously interesting!

These look like some weighty IEMs, how well do they stay in your ear? Enough to go running or to the gym with?
Cables aren't detachable. Don't know if these are a good idea for gym use at over 300.00.

They aren't heavy and fit me great but I've never used them for running or jogging. I bought the Trinity Delta for workouts, I tend to baby the 2Kj and wouldn't want to get them wet from sweat.

Great points but let me rephrase, how well do they stay in your ear during some powerful headbanging?

Is that a joke? These are some of smallest and lightest IEMs I've ever seen/used, especially in this price range.

I recommend using S-500 tips from comply as well. They really make these a good work-out earphone.

It does seem to be a metallic casing with less than an ergonomic shape, which is why I asked seriously. However the non-removable cable has me worried.

Yea, you're right on both accounts, they're not exactly 'the' most comfortable earphones, ironically because of the little tab that sticks out. However, there's a ridiculous amount of combinations you can do to make them more comfortable, I find the shark-fin tips, a silver spacer, and comply tips to be the best. The white silicone housing protector helped too.

And yes, the cable is a downside, however, it has very low microphonics, has a nice bundling accessory on the cable, and a handy clip.

You will be hard-pressed to find such a small and light IEM of this quality though.

If you keep the cable either in your shirt or clipped on, you should be okay as long as you're not lifting things on your chest or rubbing it frequently. It only takes one moderately high-speed snag to screw up most cables.

DN-1000 cable (the latest one) is so good, I'm not a bit concerned about it. Plus I have 2 years warranty. I guess same goes for DN-2000J. A few years ago there were no removable cables and nobody complained. Maybe just a few high-end models (UM3X RC comes to my  mind), but not usual and many UM3X NON RC still rocks. Of course things evolved and removable cable gives you some piece of mind and I agree it's good to have this possibility.
