A DUNU DN-2000J/AKG K3003 comparison would be highly interesting!

I can confirm for you the mid-range on 2000J is more vivid than the original, quite a bit more. It contains more bite and detail, the resolution sounds higher and its slightly brighter. Most importantly that veil or subdued sound is now lifted. I don't know who's been reading though this was definitely changed. To some extent its almost opposite of DN-2000 mid-range. but still manages to retain a 'touch' of smoothness which is quite nice. Quite an amount of soundstage width going on here and I'm using DX90. That's all for now, I don't want to get too expressive atm.

.

That's exactly what I was waiting and hoping for. I'll most definitely be getting a pair after these impressions! Thank you very much H20Fidelity (I believe I've mentioned it before but I seem to hear things the way you do) When you write that "the resolution sounds higher and its slightly brighter" I take it you mean that the J is more resolving, no? Of the TOTL phones I've had, or that I consider TOTL phones anyway (TG334, K3003, ER-4PT, FX850, DN2000, and actually the Carbo Tenore for its outstanding tonality) I've felt that the DN-2000 has been the most resolving. By resolving I don't mean detailed - the most detailed (too detailed!?) phone I've heard is the FX850 - but rather its ability to project the sometimes very subtle facets that you'll hear, let's say, in the decay of a tabla. With detailed I simply mean that you'll be able to hear every detail but not necessarily with great quality. Hm... it somewhat hard to explain but hopefully it'll make sense to you. Anyway, if the 2000J is indeed more resolving than the 2000, even if just by a tiny bit, then that is truly phenomenal.

Came here to read about the DN-2000j and ended up ordering the FLC8. Thanks for pointing it out.

Not really sure why you'd buy the FLC8 after reading his comparison to the original DN-2000 on theheadphonelist, when they were pretty much even, with one or the other taking the edge depending on what you thought.

Added this to the OP.

So is that frequency response bad? Good? Does it match up with the review Brooko gave?

Your thoughts on the frequency response? I'm about ready to pull the trigger.

You are thinking to upgrade from ie800 to dn-2000j?

I think that you will be sidegrading. Not a bad thing, if you are searching for a different signature though.

You stalkin' me brah? Haha. Yes, it will be an upgrade to me for different reasons, mainly the sound, plus saving a bit of money selling mine around $415 to $450.
Technically it is more of a sidegrade, but I prefer the balanced sound.

I remembered you from other threads.

IF you like more neutral bass sounds, you might fiind yourself a good IEM in this one.

Saving money, I think that you should reconsider. Ie800 sold at 415 and buy dunu dn-2000j at 350$. You save 65$. But if you get a sound that you like better, this is what matters the most!

I will :)
Nah, I'm getting the Dunu at $305 shipped from the drop, so selling the Sennies at $410 actually, not including fees or shipping though. I think it's a great deal for them.

I might jump on the Massdrop for the DN-2000j still. Who knows. But I'm not really looking for a U shaped FR. And it seems that the DN-2000 was brighter than the FLC8 from the comparison. That, the fact that you can tune every aspect of the sound, and I have small ears which he stated the DN-2000 might not work for.

It's not really U-shaped from what I've read though. I'm not looking for U Shaped either. Mids are precious. Yeah, the old model was brighter. The tuning is neat. Gotcha. Fit is most important, but maybe different tips may help? Idk. Thanks for the insight though.

NP, yeah, its funny that joker mentioned excess bass and treble, clearly U shaped, but the FR graph in the latest DN-2000j review clearly shows otherwise. Is this a completely different version of the DN-2000 or same but more refined?

Sure it is. It does show otherwise? I don't know how to read it, lol. It's a completely different version. Might as well call it the DN-3000.

I think I explained pretty clearly in the review - plus also take my personal prefs into account.  I do geenrally like something with a brighter presentation - and to me these are detailed without being peaky, or having a real glare in the top end.

I think the graph DUNU includes is pretty accurate to what I heard:

And no - the last thing I would call the DN-2000J is U shaped.

Also - it's funny how everyone is talking about Jokers comparison of the DN-2000 as though the DN-2000J is the same.  They're not the same.  IMO the 2000J is superior - by quite a bit.  Definitely more balanced.  Definitely cleaner and clearer too.

I just committed to join the Massdrop for these at $299. I'll get to compare these to the Flare Audio R2A (assuming Flare Audio makes their Kickstarter-stated shipping timeframe). I know the R2Pro would probably be more appropriate, but I wouldn't have the money to buy both it and the DN-2000J. Should be interesting either way, since no one seems to have heard both (but both are consistently said to be near Summit-Fi level by those who have heard them.)
