Headphoneus Supremus
Well, I doubt there will be really big changes, honestly. I thought the prototype was pretty good; if there were a smidgen more midrange and a tad less treble, I'd be beyond happy.
I suspect I will continue to criticize DUNU for the very fine polish on the packaging and marketing of their products, e.g. consistent and attractive typeface and layout (though the DN-2000J's packaging looks much improved, perhaps because of Japanese input). Sound-wise, I think essentially everyone (other than the people who just don't like the current DUNU house sound or insist on absolute neutrality) will find it to be above and beyond anything in its price category. I have no issues with its technical performance, i.e. transient decay, bass group-delay, ringing resonance control, etc. It's easily in the TOTL universal IEM conversation.
But yes, the DN-2000J sound will not be for everyone. It won't please those looking for richness or thickness. It's not especially warm. The mids are slightly laid back. Some select folk may be annoyed with the treble sparkle. But the sound feels like it was tuned with intent (and that's the important part) --- someone had a vision in mind when tweaking the DN-2000 to feel and sound as technically competent as the K3003 while preserving the sound signature precedence set with the DN-1000 and DN-2000.
If there's one thing that irks me, it's that many fledgling companies (often former/current ODM/OEMs) flounder in the water, not knowing how they like their products to sound. I think DUNU has finally found its groove.
