DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

May 9, 2015 at 12:29 PM Post #257 of 2,123
What a wonderful review! So I have a few questions:
I'm upgrading from Yamaha EPH 100 and was looking into Dunu 2000. Based on your review, I'm almost sold on 2000J.
I have a few questions: 1) Where and when do I purchase this? I live in America, and Amazon only has 2000 available.
2) Does 2000J have a good isolation? What I liked about Yamaha piece is its good isolation.
3) Does it fare well with classical music?

Thank you very much!

Oh, just shorter but not small in circumference :confounded:..i still want it nonetheless because I loved the original beside the pain. I think this might be better in comfort

I don't think it's better for long-term comfort, but on the short-term, it is noticeable that the shape is smaller, despite the miniscule shrinkage in diameter.

The K3003 is much more comfortable.

You're very welcome, though I don't think I wrote a review?

  • I don't know, sorry. I asked them, and they couldn't tell me. It depends how when they've managed to ramp up production of them.
  • The EPH-100 does have better isolation than do the 2000/2000J.
  • It has plenty of clarity with classical music, but I don't know what you're looking for in terms of taste.

This is so strange. While it is a sensitive earphone, all of a sudden, the 2000J is picking up all matter of wireless interference and amplifying DC offset issues --- this is occurring across various devices, and occurring irregularly. This doesn't feel like any part of a typical "burn-in process" for electronic components --- I'm a little worried about the longevity of any passive components inside. I will need to speak with DUNU about this.

I've just been contacted by someone. Turns out a DN2000J sample was assigned to me and already in transit. Due to the situation I 'will' be reviewing them and giving my opinion for you guys. Looking forward to it. I cannot say no considering its almost here and I'm sure you guys want as many opinions possible.

Not really, to be honest! Every word you've written about the DN2K so far has been in perfect alignment with my own perception of it, so your opinion will be hyper interesting to me. Can't wait really, and from what I've picked up so far it sounds promising.

Should I withhold commentary on the DN-2000 vs. DN-2000J? I feel like since I've been the sole voice, no one believes me and everyone just thinks I'm some DUNU shill...

Not at all tomscy2000! Your writings are extremely interesting, and I really can't thank you enough! Your only problem is that you're bit too sensitive (probably the soul of an artist) and consequently read more into things than are actually meant. (I know you've promised never to talk to me, but I never did, so I take myself the liberty!

A few updates:
  1. The RF interference issue seems to be a unit-specific issue --- still don't know exactly why it made funny noises, but they're investigating.
  2. The estimated release date is at the very end of this month, or early June. I *should* have a full written review out by then as well. (Knowing me, take that statement with a grain, or entire shaker, of salt...

  3. If you buy the DN-2000J, be careful with the front grille; the wiring of its pores are thin and easily catch cerumen (a.k.a. ear wax) on them, so clean them religiously lest you want a layer of ear wax building up on them. Use a gentle touch when cleaning though, as the wiring isn't super stiff --- all the more reason to clean after each use, before the ear wax hardens.

Just arrived .....

Vivian was going to include a pair so I could A/B - but they didn't arrive.  I know H20 has Vic's pair (and my original DN-1000), so he should be able to do a comparison with all 3.

Only had a brief listen so far - but I genuinely like what I'm hearing.  Even though I don't believe in burn-in, Vivian suggest 100+ hours (advised by their engineers), so I'll give them 48.  If no audible changes by then, I'll be able to give some impressions.

I almost never hear significant changes after 15-25 hours for any earphone, ever. So don't fret. I didn't really hear any real changes after the first couple of days.

After I'm done with comparisons of DN-2000 I can zip this pair over to you again Brooko for old times sake (providing djvkool doesn't mind)
