DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

I can only go by FR charts of them, but I can understand why it's a bit scary. I think the DN-2000J will be different. Will be getting them measured.

Honestly, I've always found Dunu more experienced in tuning over T-Peos, also innovative in design. Adding little features like tuning rings, ported half in-ear designs, little things that show they're being creative and inventive (I like that). Both thier Titan 1 and DN-1000 really pushed thier name out there, and more than likely 2000J too.

I wouldn't say that. For bass heads there are better and less expensive options (if that's what you're looking for) like the HiSoundAudio Wooduo 2.

Is there a better one than that? like in the $200+ range?

All I can say is that the Wooduo 2 satisfies Mr. Bass Head in me which shows up once in a while. There are some tracks that rely heavily on sub-bass and since IEMs notoriously have problems creating the feel of speaker sub-bass I need the Wooduo 2 to at least simulate the feeling and it does a really good job at that. Much better than any other IEM I've had or heard. It is of course far from accurate or neutral sounding (especially the sub bass/bass), but it has of course no such intention.

I'm sure there are many options for bass heads - also more expensive ones - but you should be aware that more money doesn't automatically mean better or more satisfying. For example, my favorite IEM cost approx. $40 (Zero Audio Carbo Tenore) and I've owned a few IEMs costing well over a $1000 that I feel have been less satisfying overall (especially when considering the vast price difference).

Anyway, this is the wrong thread for this discussion so let me just finally say that if you're looking for a bass heavy IEM none of the DUNU DN-xxxx IEMs will satisfy you.

The EPH-100 is the best bass-head earphone I've had period. Aerodynamic is right - The Dunu DN-2000/J ain't for bass-head unless if one is welcome for refined and mature sound. I believe the more expensive earphone is, the less likely it would be a bass-head earphone.

I think the Shure SE846, which I had demoed and is bloody expensive one, could be bass-head since the bass is so fleshed out and clearly separated. O I could say that XBA-H3 since I've heard people complaining about it bomb-bastic bass.

Regarding the dn-2000J, I think the amazing tool "bass ring" will give them the right virtual tool to compensate the bass frequency loss of the dn-2000 compared to the previous dn-1000.
So it will be a masterpiece... perfectly balanced but also slightly v-shaped thanks to the bass rings imho.

Just a forewarning for anyone considering the 2000J, I just noticed the load impedance is 8Ω (not sure if this value is correct?) compared to 16Ω on the 2000 - which was already quite low. This may cause SPL reduction in lower frequencies (equivalent to a high pass filter) from some sources. My understanding is not complete but I think output capacitors on the source can cause this issue to occur even if you follow the 8:1 load:source impedance ratio that seems to be generally accepted.

An issue I noticed even at 16Ω on the 2000 was a tendency for the bass frequencies to start falling off below 50Hz on portable audio devices. It was a non-issue with larger amps (eg. laptop), and also a non-issue with slightly higher impedance IEMs (~40Ω instead of 16Ω on the same portable sources). This is not a problem with the amp being unable to drive the IEM, it's what happens at the other extreme.

This stuff has been documented / discussed on head-fi before but it took a lot of digging to actually find it (the issue was first touched on by syvr in the 2000 thread), so I thought I'd mention it here - I suggest anyone buying attempt to test with their source beforehand.

Yes the impedance is 8 ohm - but I've tested so far with X3ii, X5, and iPhone 5S - and I'm quite happy with the bass response. DUNU also give an option to close the bass port (with an included rubber ring) to increase sub-bass (haven't tried that yet).

So far I'm finding bass response and overall signature is very tip dependent, so a lot of it will be about personal fit preferences.

What I will say so far is that the 2000J is a seriously good IEM ...... more later.
